Karrma Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 My friend drew me into Reiki and other spiritual practices for years, and was my Reiki Master. She also wanted me to learn Tarot and I was repelled by the RSW sword cards and could never use them. Then I had a couple of strong dreams that I needed to learn tarot, about the time that the Borders bookstore was closing. So I went in, but could only purchase the Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams as I was scared? of the real tarot cards. After my first reading with them, that was very strong, I researched other cards.(99 words)
Karrma Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Just now, Karrma said: My friend drew me into Reiki and other spiritual practices for years, and was my Reiki Master. Then I had a couple of strong dreams that I needed to learn tarot, about the time that the Borders bookstore was closing. So I went in, but could only purchase the Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams as I was scared? of the real tarot cards. After my first reading with them, that was very strong, I researched other cards.(99 words) So I quoted to be able to add more words, and then found the Eclectic Tarot, where I found a lot of tarot decks I could read with, but all were out of print, until I found the Rosetta Tarot, which was my first true Tarot Deck. Little did I know then that I would be studying astrology and Kabbalah as well as tarot for the next few years just to learn Thoth style decks.
Guest Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 My first deck was The Witches Tarot Deck by Ellen Cannon Reed. It was accidentally gifted to me by a friend who read Tarot. She had just bought the deck a month before and was showing it to me. After I had handled it for awhile I gave it back to her and she immediately says, "I can't use this one anymore. You're all over it. It's yours now." I did buy her another copy of the deck to replace it. (It was a rather expensive deck for the time and I felt bad.) I started with that one and then moved on to other decks down the line. Eventually, I found reading playing cards came more naturally to me but I still love the beauty of a well done Tarot deck. Unfortunately, I no longer have that first deck. IIRC, I gifted it to someone else who was just starting out reading Tarot. It's out of print now and used copies are selling for stupid prices.
Jewel Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 My first was a RWS (also before internet was a thing), I just could not connect with that deck on any level but was so intrigued by Tarot within a month I ran out and purchased Robin Wood and Tarot of the Old Path and never looked back. I read with those two decks for years and still have them 😊
