Aniketgaara Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Hello Team, As a beginner I have Smith-Waite deck.Is it a good deck to get started with tarot readings.
DanielJUK Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Welcome to the forum @Aniketgaara 🙂 I've moved this thread from an old deck section into the main Tarot Decks section as otherwise people won't see it 🙂  Smith-Waite (often referred to as RWS as an abbreviation on this forum) is an excellent starting deck because there are many resources online to help. Some people don't get on with it or like the style but for me, it's an essential deck to at least own and to learn the system with.  We have a thread of free online resources for learning tarot, most of them use RWS, I recommend Learn Tarot on the list which has lessons and exercises for learning.....   Good luck on your learning journey
Guest Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 It very much is, @Aniketgaara. The question is, does it really inspire you or was it a simple rational choice born from the advices of others?  Many readers don't make much headway in learning with decks that leave them cold, so in the long run your choice may have been unproductive. Some do not mind though, and their intense interest in discovering the Tarot's secrets makes my question moot anyways.  In any case, the Rider-Waite-Smith is such a strong base system to start your journey with.Â

Hands down Smith-Waite (RWS) is the best beginner deck b/c the symbolism is accessible and there are SO many books, videos, blogs. etc. Â I suggest my students start with RWS deck and a Marseille or Tarocchi as these are the classics. They're read with different styles ... I teach both styles hence both decks ... but most instructional material is geared to RWS ... so it's a safe choice for beginners. Â For students who absolutely dislike the RWS artwork, Chiro Marchetti decks or Morgan Greer are easy to learn the RWS style. Thoth is a different style, but it's also a classic and some people begin there. Â
