In many cultures, the days of the week are associated with the seven "classic" planets (planets that are visible with the naked eye, without the sophisticated technology developed over the last centuries). English, French and German names for the weekdays reflect the planetary "patrons".

Saturday: Saturn, obvious!

Sunday: Sun, obvious as well!

Monday: another obvious one, the Moon of course

Tuesday: named after Tyr, the Germanic/Nordic equivalent to Mars - French mardi

Wednesday: another Germanic god, Woden, equivalent to Mercury - French mercredi

Thursday: Germanic/Nordic god Donar, equivalent to Jupiter (both gods of thunder) - German Donnerstag

Friday: Germanic/Nordic goddess Freya, equivalent to Venus - French vendredi

If you sort the planets according to their distance from us, i.e., the slowest moving, most distant planet first, and the quickest planet last, you get the Chaldean order, named after the ancient Chaldeans who were eager star watchers:

Saturn

Jupiter

Mars

Sun

Venus

Mercury

Moon

If you write these planet names in a circle and inscribe a seven-pointed star inside this circle, you'll touch down on each planet in the order of our weekdays.

Isn't that neat? (Sorry the weekdays are in German, my brain works best in German).

I have long felt that the days of the week reflect some of the planet's energies, and that's why I created a weekly spread for me. Each weekday stands for the energy of the associated planet:

Saturday, ruled by Saturn: Obstacles and Blockades
Sunday, ruled by the Sun: Inspiration and Goals
Monday, ruled by the Moon: Dreams and Fears
Tuesday, ruled by Mars: Conflicts and Challenges
Wednesday, ruled by Mercury: Interactions and Change
Thursday, ruled by Jupiter: Power and Influences
Friday, ruled by Venus: Love and Attraction

Of course that doesn't mean I'm dealing every Saturday with obstacles and blockades! I do my weekly reading on Saturday, and the card I draw for Saturday addresses the obstacles and blockades I will/may encounter over the next week.

So the cards are valid for the whole week, but it happens very often that I see a Wednesday card that tells me something about this specific Wednesday.

It's a useful spread and works better for me than daily draws because it pulls together the energies of seven cards, in the ancient rhythm of our well-known days of the week.
