Rachelcat Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I just finished doing something I threatened to do a while back when I first got the deck and used it for a deck of the week. Backing up: I always had the idea of creating a haiku tarot using recognized haiku masterworks. But someone has beat me to it, and it’s so much better than I was projecting in my mind. It’s Tarot of Japanese Poetry by Irina Ilyina & V. ad Veritatum, published by NYIV Deluxe Cards Ltd. It has a booklet with a poem (not all exactly haiku, but mostly) for each card. The cards illustrate the poem (rather than RWS scenes) with lovely Japanese-style art. The suits are seasons. It adds a princess and “day before” for each season and an extra 10 of Winter. As an experiment, I typed out the poems from the book and printed them on cards. I very much don’t want to infringe on the copyright of the deck because it’s wonderful and I don’t want to take anything away from the creators! So I don’t think I can share the file with anyone. But I thought I’d share the concept and my deck interview with the text-only version. Most important characteristic: Day Before Spring Potential Strength: Hierophant Traditional and calming Weakness: Empress Meta: I had to shorten two cards. Not physically beautiful What can it teach me? Ace of Spring To be inspired to create How can I learn it? 10 of Spring Rely on my tarot family. Outcome of our work together: Knave of Winter I will become a novice writer after all. Just thought I'd share my experiment! I think I'll keep working with them this week (on the side from my regular deck of the week).
peacewing Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 This is beautiful! I would love it if they poems were somehow incorporated on the cards, who could remember those for every image! Thank you for sharing your innovative solution!
RaynaDark Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I've been looking for a good Japanese themed deck and this is beautiful! I have a Japanese cherry blossom tattoo lol

rainydayinagoodway Posted August 13 Posted August 13 This is an old post, but wow, what a beautiful deck! Thank you for posting samples of some of the beautiful poetry included in the book. Haiku seems at home here, sigh.
