EmpyreanKnight Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Coming this October 2018 from Lo Scarabeo, le Tarot De La Nuit. With art by Alexandra V. Bach and with the booklet written by Carole-Anne Eschenazi. http://www.bgkorea.com/tarot/6-Tarot-De-La-Nuit-출간예약.jpg[/img] Facebook Instagram
faerybraids Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Ooooooooo, pretty!!! Thank you so much for posting! My heart's aching for it, I love the art style. Please tell me I'm not the only one super excited for this. (/‿\❀)
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 The Empress is one of the most stunning I've ever seen in any deck. She looks like Elle Fanning, whom I have a yen for, so yeah. :D And yup, faerybraids, I'm also looking forward to this. It's just so gorgeous, I love it! And I checked out the creator's account so I can say that the images shown here are not misleading - all the cards are uniformly ravishing. So much eye candy I can't even.

ayuryogini Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I kind of like the vibe, but I have a little trouble with decks that show such homogeneous women: light-skinned, skinny, 20-somethings.

That's completely fair! Homogeneity is definitely something that needs to be worked on regarding tarot deck imagery, though there are more starting to come out featuring diversity of all sorts (the Slutist Tarot, Tarot of the Crone, Shrine of the Black Medusa Tarot and the Next World Tarot spring to mind). If you know of any coming out I'm sure a lot of us would be excited to know about them! :D I know I'd be particularly interested in any featuring an art style similar to le Tarot de la Nuit's because it's a style I've loved for years. It's a pity I haven't come across a deck like it featuring diverse representation. :(
Lionsdaughter Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 It's really pretty. I am looking forward to it.
Jewel Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 It really is beautiful. I have to be honest, I much prefer my decks with both male and female characters, this one might really tempt me. The art is just gorgeous and it has no borders.
Louise Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Digging this old topic since the deck has now been released or about to reach sellers platforms... I totally fell in love with this deck when I had the opportunity to see a few cards on Instagram. Especially since it's been created by two French women and I was more than happy to support the work of French peers. I even pre-ordered it last week until I bumped on a flipthrough on YT (search for 'Tarot de la Nuit' by Moonlight Scorpio). Well... I'm still swept off by the amazing artwork, no question about that but too many cards just don't speak to me. Some cards follow the RWS spirit while others don't make any sense at all therefore there's a sense of imbalance that would make this deck very difficult to work with. So I had the idea to check on the designer's website and found out that it looks like many designs were not originally and specifically made with Tarot in mind. That would then explain the feeling I get from this deck (that sense of incoherence plus not enough gender balance). Despite I truly love and admire the effort put in it, I cancelled my order. I think I'll take some time and see how other people relate to it. I might buy it some time later when water has flowed under the bridge and for the sake of the artwork. This is such a disappointment :(
Essjay Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 I have my copy and it’s very beautiful but the ONLY people in these cards are young, white girls. There’s the occasional man but on the whole it’s all one vibe. There’s a lovely, gloomy, gothic vibe about the deck but I just wish it wasn’t so white. I don’t know why it’s so noticeable in this deck either. Everyone is super slim too - perhaps, with the changing times and deck creators making more diverse decks this one seems a little out of step?

I hear what you're saying, Essjay. As someone who's not young, slim, or white, I know it can be hard to connect to a deck when no one in it looks like you. That being said, I do appreciate the beauty of this deck, and it's celebration of the night.

Having said all that I also really love the whole brooding nighttime things so i’ll keep it and use it! I don’t know why this deck is the one that makes me notice the lack of diversity though -weird. Probably a stage of life thing for me!

Avalon Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 The women of Team Edward? They are stunning! Welcome Gen Z and your purchasing power I <3 marketing ;D

I’m watching a Discovery of Witches here in the U.K. and they have a stunning young, black actress playing a vampire so I feel it’s a missed opportunity by Lo Scarabeo. Ah well.

Yes, this is exactly why I changed my mind about buying the deck! The art is beautiful, but the lack of diversity really throws me. [emoji53] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NoellaRoyce Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I actually found this great community while looking for reviews for this deck, and have to say you made the right decision, odd_soul[/member] - it's absolutely beautiful and I'm rather disappointed overall. When it's good it's quite powerful - the Emperess, 4 of Swords, five of cups, 10 of wands. For many of the others, where they seem a stretch for the card, the book does a solid job of bridging the gap. But there's far too many ones that are just pretty photo-manipulated ladies being pretty ladies with no connection to the meaning and the description is trying way too hard to connect the card and the original symbolism. There's a dark, brooding black swan one for 7 of pentacles and the break down is all about hard work and your standard application from the RW - I've reached the world stage, yay, look at my red shoe! That's not what's going on AT ALL - she's clawing her own skin! This is not a hard work and fruition card, not with that vibe. I've never seen a tarot key writer work so hard. I think the artist was working very fast and loose with 'tarot' for many of these; I write paranormal and UF romance novels and that's what these cards look like to me. Every single one would make an *amazing* cover to a book, but as a deck of tarot cards? Disappointing. Like the Tarot of Vampyres, beautiful and depressingly empty. (On that note, anyone in the market for two impulse-bought, visually lovely goth decks? *shifty eyes*) Also and randomly, Jon Snow

Thanks so much for sharing, NoellaRoyce[/member]! This definitely cements my decision not to get it. Beautiful art, but not for me--at least not to read with. I could maybe see it being useful as a writing brainstorming tool for plotting and such, especially for fantasy novels, though!

It's funny you mention that I was thinking the same thing for my books! Because of it's cover vibe it could be a great tool, although a frustration is there's so few men? For figuring out story bits I would want more masculine energy, if that makes sense?

Yeah, that's a bummer. 😕 There's always the option to use different decks for different characters or something, though! That's what I'm planning to do for my current project (once I get back to working on it, that is 🙃), since my two main characters are so different. I haven't yet figured out how this will work, though. 😅

You could have a deck for one character, another dec for another, AND THEN a third dec for their relationship? Glorious deck pandemonium! :))

[emoji23] Planning my story would be like Scrooge McDuck swimming around in his vat of money, except I'd be swimming in a vat of cards! [emoji14] (I'd better be careful or I can use this possibility to justify buying more decks just because they would suit the mood of my story or the personalities of my characters!
