EmpyreanKnight Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 http://www.bgkorea.com/tarot/12-StarMan-Tarot-Kit-출간예약.jpg[/img] The Starman Tarot is set to be released by Lo Scarabeo this October 2018 and shall be available as either a kit or as a deck only. From the Starman website: The original Starman Tarot idea was conceived by the iconic David Bowie and artist, designer and philosopher Davide De Angelis twenty one years ago in London, England. Starmen Travelling Through Time Journeying through innumerable transformations, the project somehow stayed potententalised across the years; building, evolving and vast in scope. And yet with hugely busy work schedules and commitments, seemingly impossible to realise. Then upon Bowie’s death in January 2016, Davide De Angelis was compelled by a series of powerful dreams to complete the project and finally bring the Starman Tarot to life for the world to experience. Starman Tarot is a highly innovative and dynamic rendition – evolution - of the ancient Tarot System. Inspiration for the deck and its accompanying book centers on a series of powerful and illuminating conversations and creative exchanges he had with the iconic David Bowie over the course of ten years, beginning in 1995. Furiously developing a unique visual style - a mesmerising dreamscape - the deck speaks powerfully and directly about the turbulent times we are currently facing, and at the same time opens a portal to a vivid and miraculous future. It gives all who use it access to a vital form of creative expression, revealed wisdom and guidance. Just like Bowie himself, Starman Tarot is a living, shape-shifting system to be explored for countless generations. As anticipation builds before publication, the project is attracting a large following around the world eager to engage with the energy of the deck. Working with the Starman Davide describes his experience of working closely with Bowie: “When I worked with Bowie, there was always a sense that something astonishing, something impossible was going to happen. I would cross into a realm where the ordinary became extraordinary, a realm where ideas appeared to have a visceral quality that I could touch and move. Bowie was a magnetic energy that attracted creativity. Reality became evermore sensitive to this energy and constantly gifted the unexpected.” Bowie in turn described Davide’s artwork as, “Potent Visual Alchemy” and referred to Davide as "The Visual Alchemist”. Their collaborations flowed across many platforms and mediums including, album art and design, art shows and installations, film and of course working on fantastical projects such as the Starman Tarot. http://www.bgkorea.com/tarot/5-Star-Man-Tarot-출간예약.jpg[/img]

EmpyreanKnight Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 Additional Cards with write-ups from De Angelis JUSTICE: In the Starman Tarot ‘Justice’ does not refer to any kind of man-made laws or systems. Instead it brings to light the principle of ‘consequences’ - what has transpired from your actions. There is both a Universal justice and your own unique individual justice - what you know is right - what is balanced in both your head and your heart. This calls you to question what you ‘know’ on the deepest level is unjust…. There are times when you must stand up for what is right for you - your own truth. This card is the great questioner, seeking out the truth and refusing to accept things that don’t work or cause suffering and discomfort. It calls you to become aware of the constant interaction between your head and your heart - your thinking, evident mind and your intuition, what moves under the surface. It is the reclaiming of power from things that have been taken against your will or without your knowledge. It asks you bluntly what do you actually stand for, what are you willing to take a stand for? Each action tips the balance either towards love or suffering, good and evil, right and wrong - importantly FOR YOU. Nature gifts us the opportunity to create both good and bad. Nature is not impartial as we have been led to believe: Nature is pro life and rejoices in the things that bring life to Life. Those who see this discover that their life is an astonishing gift! The Justice card is an invitation to become untangled from all the things that do not represent you or speak for you. Often you will need to take uncomfortable actions, have uncomfortable conversations. Those who are willing to face the discomfort of living their truth walk the earth as whole beings. Understand that every move towards your own justice is a move towards freedom. THE HANGED MAN: In the Starman Tarot, the Hanged Man does not represent any form of punishment. Instead the wise Shaman voluntarily hangs to symbolise a significant turning point - a point of transition. He hangs from the ‘wise tree’ with its roots reaching down towards the Earth - seeking out practical answers and knowledge. He hangs with the risk of plunging from a great height and is forced to trust the strength of the wise tree to support him. Paradoxically, power is found in helplessness. When you connect with this card, there is a need to stop and take account of your life. But there is no great urgent rush to make bold, dashing changes, instead you must hang in the balance until the most powerful and expansive way is revealed to you. This is a forced time of reflection: in the constant tide of life we seldom give ourselves the opportunity to just stop and consider where we are going, who we are becoming and what we ultimately want to represent. Through the Shaman hanging relaxed and resigned to what is, you are called to view things from a very different perspective, to invert yourself so as to understand your life in a new and potent way. Sometimes you are simply forced to wait until the right path is revealed and this can be uncomfortable and frustrating. However the more you relax and surrender to what is, the more life opens and reveals its miracles. So often, all attempts to move forward are futile - life is clearly telling you that you must wait. To ignore the message of the Hanged Man brings about an even greater standstill and the feeling of stagnation, and at its most negative, that life has rejected you. To accept the natural flow of life is maturity and you are gifted greater wisdom and perspective as a result. In this card you must ask yourself what sacrifices you are willing to make to do the things you most desire. Some form of sacrifice is always necessary, but so often we sacrifice what’s truly important because we have not taken the time to see the bigger picture. Ultimately life will do what it will do and you must be a peace with this and at the same time have the courage to take action when called. DEATH: In the Starman Tarot the Death card carries the powerful message that we must live with death as our most intimate companion. We are surrounded by death, immersed in death - life an enraptured love-making with death. Our time on this Earth is limited and nothing - not even the sun that brings life to all living creatures - will escape the touch of death. The death card reminds us to cherish each day - each moment - each breath as if it is our last. What are you making important? If you are focused on what is ultimately unimportant then you become dead to your life potential. Death calls you to remember your ancestors - those who have lived and died so that you may also live and die. The breath of life is so powerful and yet so fragile with death standing as the great energy angel between what must pass and what must become. Death on all levels is transforming you into something new in each moment - nothing is static. And it is in this miraculous power of renewal that you can gaze into the eyes of death, touch the hand of death. As the Samurai, you are already dead and in this you are more alive than ever - life itself manifests out of death and so you are given the opportunity to become something new and filled with life. Death is a reminder to look closely at what you are doing, who you are becoming. The message is clear: if you do not like what you see in the mirror make the changes immediately - let all you no longer desire fall into the open arms of death, let all misery and pain fall back into the open arms of death, let everything you believe to be true fall into the open arms of death and know that when you live with death you become free - paradoxically you are no longer finite: your life is cleansed and replenished. The fight is over, the struggle becomes futile and must be dropped. All regrets, resentments and blame must die so that you can live as a powerful, passionate and loving human being. In this time of great turmoil, your most miraculous choice is to embrace life as the most precious gift and see that every life must be cherished. Life will bring seemingly overwhelming challenges to so many and death teaches us to find the sacred light that is the soul of all things and bring this light into the world through our words and actions. In the end there is only love.
gregory Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I was lucky enough to see a few cards from this at the exhibition in Torino. AND I met Corsi on the side. It will be amazing.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 I'm glad that this deck met your approval, gregory. I'm quite jealous that you already had a glimpse of the cards lol. I like Bowie's music, the electric art has already reeled me in, and De Angelis's writeups make me think that he really has an intimate grasp of the Tarot, and that this is not just a cynical attempt to cash in on the renewed interest in Bowie after his demise. I am so watching this.
CharlotteK Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I NEED this one. I was a serious Bowie fan from the age of 14 and was lucky enough to see him in concert three times. It would have been four but he had a heart attack just before the gig and retired from touring. I've had a lifelong fascination with Bowie and adore his music, art, fashion... this is very him. It looks splendid. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
RavenOfSummer Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 I got to see the David Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum this weekend, and saw some miniature paintings David had done in the tarot series he had planned. The exhibit also talked about a deck of cards he started using after Brian Eno shared them with him- it was a text-based deck used to overcome creative block. Each card had a phrase describing something to do or think about when you were stuck creatively. Excited for this deck! :D

I saw it at the V&A in London 5 years ago (I think that's where it started). I wasn't into Tarot at the time so I didn't pay lots of attention to those elements but I loved the clothes. Wish I could go back and see those paintings again! ☺ Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Bookworm Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 This deck looks amazing. I'm also a huge Bowie fan from way back and will be going to the exhibit later this month. Thanks, Raven, for mentioning the card references. I'll be sure to look for them.
BlueToy Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Loving the style and the whole vibe of the images. Just wishing it didn't look so... digital. But its still great. Has this nicely indie alternative late 90s art vibe going on.

But they were very strict about no photography in the exhibit. It was fabulous to see! This deck looks amazing. I'm sure you will love it, Bookworm! They did a great job with it.
