VGimlet Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 This week I am using the ginormous shiny Next World Tarot. It's quite pretty, but not sure how easy it's going to be to shuffle. ;)
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 This week it's: EmpyreanKnight - Renaissance Tarot + Osho Zen Tarot + Barbara Walker Tarot + Tarot of Shadows
jema Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I just found out that fool's dog have tabula mundi so I had to get it. But I am not finished with Norse tarot yet so I will show restraint and save that shiny new thing. So jema - Norse tarot. Skickat från min HTC Desire 626 via Tapatalk
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 SaturnCeleste[/member] we have a new DotW thread here now. :)
Chiska Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 After getting slapped around by The Whispering Tarot, I think I will find something less *cough* snotty. ;D A Visconti is interesting. I have a few different versions. I have an old U.S. Games Visconti Sforza with a copyright of 1975. A bit rough around the edges - obviously somebody loved that deck and used it! Must have had giant hands!
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 USG currently offers another large-sized edition of the Visconti-Sforza with an excellent booklet, but I've heard that their old cardstock was more premium so you may have a great un there, Chiska. I have the gold-foiled LoS Visconti and I love it, but I'm thinking of getting the Meneghello version in the future.
Page of Ghosts Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 The Jolanda Tarot has been on my mind for quite a while so I'll be using it this week, as well as the Sasuraibito. I forgot to tell much about what I feel that deck is good at in my review, but I suspect it might be good at creative inspiration, telling me to meditate and.. maybe kicking my butt a little bit when it comes my mental state? I'll keep an eye out so I can update my review. Page of Ghosts - Jolanda Tarot and The Sasuraibito Tarot
Madame Squee Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I'm in with the Tyldwick Tarot and Old Arabian Lenormand. Thank you for the thread, VG. :-*
Saturn Celeste Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 SaturnCeleste[/member] we have a new DotW thread here now. :) Thank you so much Empyrean! I appreciate your mention! Ok, I would like to join in and I'll be using the Tarot Illuminati. It was one of my very first decks and I used it all the time but I'd like to give it some special attention this week. Thanks guys for doing this! :D
Chiska Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 USG currently offers another large-sized edition of the Visconti-Sforza with an excellent booklet, but I've heard that their old cardstock was more premium so you may have a great un there, Chiska. I have the gold-foiled LoS Visconti and I love it, but I'm thinking of getting the Meneghello version in the future. Reviewing what I do have in the Visconti...a 2nd printing (per printer's key in LWB) with images reproduced by Grafica Guttenberg. The cards are supple and soft, with no nasty coating. The edges are yellowing and it like a familiar and much-loved book. The next is a 4th Printing with images reproduced by AGMuller & Cie. It s printed in Switzerland and is laminated. This one would be more appropriate for use as the cards are more sturdy and less prone to damage. The third is an il Meneghello (906/1000). It is absolutely and undeniably gorgeous. The USGames 2nd printing is very nice, but the Meneghello is special. Not really a usable deck with the THICK cardstock, but very nice for study and just gazing at in adoration.
CharlotteK Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Would this week be a good week to dip my toe into the world of Lenormand for the first time? Don't see why not :) CharlotteK - Gravenchase Lenormand & Thoth Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
RavenOfSummer Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I'm in with the Science Tarot again this week! I'll also be working with the Wisdom of the Trees Oracle. RavenOfSummer - Science Tarot and Wisdom of the Trees Oracle
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Yay SaturnCeleste, we're so glad to finally have you. I dislike most digitally-created decks, but I like the Illuminati and Apokalypsis because the art is well-executed, the human figures don't look like cyborgs, and the settings are so lavish and opulent, verging on the decadent. I hope yiu enjoy your deck this week. :D LoS Minchiate, thank you VG Whew this is a beaut, and a rare one too, AJ-ish.
Bodhiseed Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Hope all the DoWers are having a good weekend, and a warm welcome to SaturnCeleste! :D I'm in this week with the Delta Enduring Tarot paired with the Southernisms Oracle. Thanks VG!
Bodhiseed Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 This week I'll be using the Delta Enduring Tarot, created and self-published by Bridgette Egan. Along with it I'll be drawing from the Southernisms Oracle (a deck I created based on sayings I grew up with). Today's draws are Justice and 'Wet Hen:' Egan's Justice card sent a warm thrill through me, bringing to mind the words of Albert Einstein: "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." When there is injustice and inequality, people do need to speak up. First, because there are those who may sincerely be unaware of the situation, and secondly so others will have the courage to speak out as well. Holding aloft an IUD-shaped set of scales, a beautiful black woman stands at the front of a long line of women. These gals seem impervious to the anger and taunts tossed out by the crowd; they are here to hold folks accountable and create change (and refuse to back down until that happens). The Southernism today is "Madder than a wet hen." In the past, farmers often found stubborn hens sitting on eggs they wanted to collect. They put an end to their brooding behavior by giving them a quick dunk in cold water. Needless to say, the hen wasn’t too happy about such treatment. And therein lies the root of much injustice - the bullying behavior that takes by force what is wanted without concern for the other. I'm with Twisted Sister on this one: "We're not gonna take it anymore."
Saturn Celeste Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Yay SaturnCeleste, we're so glad to finally have you. I dislike most digitally-created decks, but I like the Illuminati and Apokalypsis because the art is well-executed, the human figures don't look like cyborgs, and the settings are so lavish and opulent, verging on the decadent. I hope yiu enjoy your deck this week. :D Thank you Empyrean! Where do we post about our deck of the week? Do we post on this thread? If there's no section or thread, I can do it on my journal. ;)
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 You can either post it here or in your journal if you want, SaturnCeleste, since there are no hard and fast rules. Curious about your Illuminati. :)
VGimlet Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 Welcome SaturnCeleste - this is the no rules thread, so post where ever you like. ;) I am liking the Next Tarot quite a bit so far, it feels like a breath of fresh air, which I need during this dark winter rainy gloom, although it also makes me want to be someplace warm, not sure if that's good or bad.
Saturn Celeste Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 EmpyreanKnight[/member] & VGimlet[/member], thank you both for your replies. I will have something up today or tomorrow for sure. ;D
Chiska Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I've been enjoying the Visconti. I pulled out my Encyclopedia of Tarot, Vol. I and read up on the history. Always fun, that part! I have done a "Deck Interview" (at my blog) and a couple other little readings. Very interesting. I think that one of the positives is that it is stirring up the distant memory of reading TdM. I stepped away for tarot for quite awhile and was a bit sad that when I first looked at the cards I just see sticks and swords! It will return quickly, however. Just like an unused muscle group. Not going to be a reading deck, but for historical value and just looking at admiringly, it can't be beat!
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I have to say: the Tarot of Shadows is one strange dame. I have rarely found a deck as tantalizing and as enigmatic as this one. There is a strange but irresistible depth to it that I feel compelled to plumb. Beautiful, smart, and dangerous - what more can one ask for, really?
VGimlet Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 Next World tarot is very fun, I like the modern imagery, and also that it's an inclusive deck. I will be using it again, as I'm tempted to keep it for another week - but other decks await.
Page of Ghosts Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 The first few weeks I had the Jolanda as my deck I didn't really feel like I was able to read with it, but this time around it feels a bit differently. I'm able to understand or see a lot more relatable advice in the cards and I suspect it could be based on the Thoth. While I'm not super proficient in reading with the Thoth this does give me some better insight or better places to approach it from since the RWS is not very close to this deck. The Sasuraibito on the other hand completely spooked me the other day when I pulled some cards that I suspect weren't related to what I had in mind that day, but some other issues, so I've been taking very long to try and write up that day in my thread over at the daily draws.
