Does tarot work b/c of magickal correspondences?

There seem to be Tarot readers and books emphasising on the correspondence based readings, and there are also the other Tarot books and readers emphasising on the pictorial symbolism based readings.   

 

I am not sure which are better and gives more accurate readings.   I would suppose it would also depend on which deck one uses for the readings.

For instance RWS or RWS clone decks would be more suited for the pictorial symbolism based readings, whereas less or no graphic decks such as my Kabbalistic deck would be suited for 100% correspondence based readings.

 

Croweley's Thoth deck or GD based deck would be ideal for both correspondence and symbols based readings.
