GreatDane Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 I am having the most difficult time finding a Cat Tarot I want to read with. Some either seem to emphasize the cat too much, or anthropomorphize them, I think there are BEAUTIFUL cat decks with cats as people in dress, but not what I'm looking for. Or some seem too cartoony to me. I have a black cat and tortoiseshell cat. It would be cool to see them both represented in a deck (another thing, often cat decks stick to about three different colors of cats), but obviously not a necessity. Checked out Black Cat Tarot, not for me. Mystical, Pagan, Cat's Eye, Medieval cat tarot decks. I'm look for something that prominently features cats, but basically follows RWS closely, just using cats. I've check out Etsy, Amazon, YouTube reviews. I know my cat deck is out there or hopefully someone is making it! Any suggestions?
Saule Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) Soul Cats Tarot is so beautiful! Have you seen it yet? I personally don't own it so I'm not too sure if it'll be your perfect deck, but check it out :) Also, the forum perfectly cut out your thread name :D Sorry just being childish here! akiva Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 I'm also a cat lover, though I've yet to buy a cat deck. Similar to you, there's just nothing that really fits the bill! Though I'd consider getting Tarot of White Cats as I share my life with a gorgeous white cat called Billy 😁 Have you looked at these: Cats Rule The Earth Grimalkins Curious Cats Tarot this seems to have a lot of colour diversity in it, though it is a bit cartoony... The struggle is real for the perfect cat deck!

gregory Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Pagan Cats. (And - ARE there readers who AREN'T cat people ?)
DanielJUK Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 I've moved this thread to the Tarot Decks area
GreatDane Posted October 5, 2023 Author Posted October 5, 2023 Even when I didn't have a cat, I was a Cat Peep, Gregory! I have had my CoJack (Corgi/Jack Russell) dog who is very catlike like a lot of terriers. When he was younger his vet said he would advise getting a cat (Bryan, my dog, came into my life through a shelter situation), but he's 13 now and gets along fine with my two cats, but maybe because he was already elderly when I got Rowan last year and Malcolm this year. Rowan my tortie cat walked slowly through the room, and you could just feel her saying, this is my house now, dog, if you're nice, I shall let you stay! Arania, I get that a cat deck should have, well, cats. My issue is that I want the rest of the symbolism to be easily read RWS associations. And I like cats looking like cats, not dressed like people. Just my preference. I have checked out every deck everyone has mentioned, and they are LOVELY. You know how you just have to feel like yes, this is it! I just haven't felt that yet. I want to. I will take another look at each deck mentioned. Anyone remember the Majors Only Black Cat deck from AGES ago? I think they did come out with a 78 card deck? I remember wanting them to. I remember a black cat deck and liking the Majors only.
Arania Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 (edited) Ah, being a role player I have no issues with anthromorphic cats. Tarot of the Pagan Cats and Cats rule the World are both very RWS and easy to read. for a deck that has cvats just as a part of it all, both the Every Day Witch Tarot and Oracle show cats on almost all cards but not as the center piece. If we ever finish the deck with our own cats I'll publish them here haha. We did the greaters and the aces for this year's cat calendar. Edited October 5, 2023 by Arania
GreatDane Posted October 5, 2023 Author Posted October 5, 2023 I think we have a winner! I did go through decks mentioned and ALL of them had merits, but for me, personally, to read....Pagan Cats. SO SHOUT OUT to those who mentioned it and YES, you nailed it, Gregory! The only reason I didn't get it when it first came out was because I didn't like the borders with all the languages. Overall I like borderless for most decks. Tarotpist on YouTube did a flip through of Mystical Cats, Cat Tarot and Pagan Cats and that's when I realized....there is a borderless one! IF I could change one thing, I like the Majors with the names printed just cuz. BUT if it has some RWS symbolism I'm good. I noticed with some of the cat decks, and Tarotpist mentioned this, if there wasn't a symbol on the card, she would have no idea what the card should be. I noticed there are cat decks, particularly pips, but even some Majors, that are whimsical, like the cats, but for me, not a reading deck. AGAIN, just me. So for the easiest actual cat reading deck I've seen, Pagan Cats.
GreatDane Posted October 6, 2023 Author Posted October 6, 2023 Borderless Tarot of the Pagan Cats ordered! THANKS for all your input. SO many had such gorgeous artwork, but I look at images and I would rather have the images recognized as at least vaguely RWS and no names, than names and the images NOT be anything like RWS.
GreatDane Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 I love the smell of fresh card stock in the morning! 😀 My Tarot of Pagan Cats arrived! The borderless one. LOVE IT. I love the images, the smell of the cardstock, the type of cardstock, that it's borderless and easy to read without titles if you know RWS. Nice shuffler too! As I mentioned in an earlier post, Tarotpist on YouTube did a flip through of the decks I mentioned. Would never have known what most of the cards were without titles for Mystical Cats and Cat Tarot. Some I could tell, some were just....? But Pagan Cats is an easy read for RWS readers even with no titles. SO HAPPY. 🐱😻
Morwenna Posted March 3 Posted March 3 And if you haven't noticed (and I'm sure you have), Pagan Cats also includes black and calico cats! And all the Tarot symbolism is so spot-on.
