I've been away from Tarot for a few years and unfortunately most of my decks got lost as I've moved house twice  since then.

So, are there any amazing decks that have come out in around the last couple of years that I should know about? I mostly like Rws variants - Anna k, Morgan Greer, Robin wood but sometimes I like something a little bit different. I used to use the Wildwood quite a bit too.

That's really hard, as there are too many decks out there. Cats, dogs, unicorns, dragons, fandom, nature, druidic, witchy... it is a lot!

Probably the most interesting deck I've acquired recently is Poppy Palin's The Everyday Enchantment Tarot.  It's urban-based, with very usable contemporary images.  Here are a few:

The only downside to this deck is that the card stock is awkward.  It's quite thick and a bit on the large side, so riffle shuffling isn't really possible. The cards also tend to stick together a bit, so I dusted them with card fanning powder, which helped a lot.  I also modified them—making them smaller by cutting off the outside borders.  Physical issues aside, this is a fantastic deck that contains very clear images that are well thought-out and easy to work with.  I highly recommend it, even with the card stock issues being what they are.  It's very easy to 'read' with it, once you get them shuffled and dealt.  The book that accompanies the deck is written by Poppy herself, and it is excellent and detailed.

Have a look at our 2022 forum voting fave poll results for the last year -

The most popular decks last year for our members was Light Seer's Tarot, Tarot of the Abyss and The Serpent and the Peacock Tarot

I would recommend the Wild Unknown Tarot, it's very minimalist but it's been quite a phenomenon and has become a whole brand in the last few years. Check you like the art first though, it contains no humans!

I know. I've just been browsing through some decks and I can see that there are heaps of new ones in all different genres. There's so much variety. So many new oracle decks too. Makes it hard to choose

At this point in the Tarot Explosion ... I feel like a person needs to "curate".

I went through trial and error ... and even a buying addiction ... to learn that I start with the END in mind.

For example ... how many decks do you want?

What's your budget? Your space?

Do you want to own 5 decks? 10 decks?

[my collection is capped at 70 decks. this is all I want and more than I need]

What categories do you feel drawn to?

RWS and its clones? Thoth? TdM? Tarocchi? Modern? Animals? Themes? Dark? Light? Humorous?

Do you like decks with nudity or prefer to have a deck with no nudity?

Which decks attract you in those broad categories?

For example I have 2 TdM for teaching purposes ... but I don't much care for TdM ... I won't buy any more.

OTOH I love Italian tarocchi style cards ... so i have around 7 of this style.

I have 3 modern decks ... not really my thing ... 3 is enough.

I have 6 RWS and close clones. I learnt on RWS ... so it's my comfort zone ...

Also plenty of decks that have their own niche categories ... like tarot+playing card hybrids ... but I think you get the idea.

Of course many people just "buy what you like" ... but that turned into addiction for me. I donated these "mistakes" to the thrift store where I hope they made someone else happy.😇

I’ve been using the Pulp Tarot by Todd Alcott for a few months and I really enjoy it. It has a lot of personality and is really unique because the designs are vintage, but still modern when compared to other tarot decks.
