Hello from France,

I've discovered tarot through a french comic called Arcana, by Serena Blasco. I was not into divination at all, but the story is great, and I felt that it would be easier to follow what's happening in the book with a deck of cards in front of me.

So, a few months ago, I bought two decks, a "traditional" and a "modern" one... only to discover that the names and numbers of the arcana don't match precisely the ones in the history that I was reading. So I quickly bought a third one, this time paying attention to the "Waite" and "Smith" names on the box. My two first decks were a Marseille and an Oswald With tarot, but at that time I didn't know what that was meaning.

At that moment, I was still not into divination at all, but these three decks come with a little booklet. Why not have a look ? Hmmm, looks intersting. Let's try.

Oh wait, the three booklets don't tell exactly the same thing. What's the differences ?

In short, I've now watched a lot of videos, read 6 books, and got 7 decks.

I'm still not into divination at all 😅, but I like all the psychological part in tarot reading. I use tarot to think about myself, and how my mind works. And I may occasionally give a reading to a friend or parent. That would not be divinatory tarot. Rather psychological tarot, but not completely either. In my readings, the free will is always on the querent's side (the querent being myself, most of the times). My tarots only proposes ideas. They never state facts.

I use Tarot de Marseille for reading.

I think there are more books on TdM in French than English.

That being said … it can be good to find just one book and stick with it at first … to avoid so many different inputs.

Joav Ben Dov has a good book on TdM in English.

Eden Gray Tarot Revealed is old but classic for RWS.

Somewhat belated greetings @Pio2001 and welcome to our happy band!

You are not alone! The psychological part of The Tarot calls to me, and I am satisfied with that. I believe some call this ‘secular tarot,’ and some call it ‘Jungian’ Tarot. But whatever it is called, it works for me.

I use Tarot de Marseille exclusively and am always interested in meeting other TdM readers and learning how they ply the art!

On this forum, you will meet people from around the globe! We are all joined together by a curious set of images that, for centuries, have illuminated the creative imaginations of those who hold them. At times, we see parts of the card’s personalities in people and events around us. How cool is that!

Anyway, I’m glad you found us.

Take care and keep safe!

I love the way you described what works for you, psychology has always fascinated me. I feel very similarly about the way of reading.
