Missing card from rare and out of print deck, options?

Sorry I didn't know where to post this (thought about the Lost and Found Cards Singles) , please move this thread if need be. As the title says, I have a rare and out of print deck and somewhere along the way I've lost a card (completely scoured the house, it's definitely gone, accidentily thrown in the trash is my best guess) and I don't have the option of the contacting the creator/publisher as it was a collaborative deck. The deck is the Collective Tarot which i think has been out of print for like a decade now.

I thought about using a printing service to make another (like Make Playing Cards etc) but they usually want you to make a complete deck and I need just one card, plus the cards are unusual size for tarot (3.5 x 5.5 inches, as opposed to the standard 2.75 x 4.75 inches). I have a high res image of the card I need (2 of Pentacles).

Another forum suggested i just break up the deck and sell individual cards but that's definitely not happening lol, i'd like to somehow just recreate that one card but have no idea how to go about doing it.

@MalonSaria, I don’t know if this would be possible, but maybe order blank card samples from the print-on-demand companies in the size you are seeking and adhere the printed image somehow or take it to a local printer and ask if they have some options for you to consider.

That's a good idea, thank you

It's worth listing the card and deck in Lost and Found Cards Singles, you never know, but it is slow 🙂

Personally, I think the best course of action is to look for the deck being sold online, I know it's OOP but maybe you will strike lucky and a good deal?

I would set up searches for it on eBay and AbeBooks.

I can't really advise printing because I have never done it but one thing to warn you is that online sites and printing places can ask if you own the copyright? You might find somewhere that will print one image for you.

Definitely don't reprint whole decks and resell them to others, it could get you in serious trouble! The artists own the copyright of that deck, strictly you cannot reproduce it. It might be okay to take a personal copy for yourself.

Is The Collective Tarot , "a radially politicked, queerly-revisioned" deck? That one? Apparently the first deck was printed in 2007 but the third version was a crowdfunder in 2013, link here -

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1249459446/the-collective-tarot-round-iii

Whilst that project is long closed and there isn't new decks for sale, they are reprinting every so often. A 4th edition could well be being planned soon! I think that's positive!

I would message the artist in charge of the deck or the kickstarter if you can find a contact. Would it be possible to replace that one card? Secondly, is a new print run coming anytime soon?

Thanks for the advice DanielJUK, and yes that's the correct deck. I search ebay and similar sites for copies and they do come up for sale but rarely and even then it usually goes for $800 to $1200 and I just can't afford that (don't think I would pay anywhere close to that for a tarot deck actually lol). I believe the last I heard of a new printing was the one in your link, from 2012 unfortunately. I may try the Lost and Found Card Singles, thank you for the advice.

One option is to keep using the deck, minus that card. I don’t think it would screw up your readings. If you really wanted the presence of 2oP then you could decide that another card becomes the equivalent to 2oP when it’s reversed, like Justice of Temperance.

This technique is similar to what many of us do when we work with reduced playing card decks. The meanings of the reduced cards are layered onto the meanings of other cards with similar basic themes. I feel that 2oP is a card that could be redacted successfully.

Wow that's amazing advice, I never considered that! thank you 🤗

Thankfully this happened to me only once. In my case, one card was missing because another was duplicated, so I simply marked the copy as the missing card and left it at that. The one time that the copy came up in a reading, I used the intended meaning of the missing card to interpret it.

If there's no duplicate, I would've used the presentation card in its place. This solution might not appeal to intuitive readers though so ymmv.
