The standard meanings of Fish have to do with cashflow. From the PL instructions:

The Fishes if near the Person point to the acquisition of large fortune by marine enterprises and to a series of successful undertakings; if distant they indicate the failure of any speculation, no matter how well projected or planned.

In health readings Fish is normally given as: urinary system, alcoholism, water retention.
I would also think drowning or death by drowning ... but no books or blogs mention this 😆

I just had a surprising experience with Fish.

I threw a 9-card line about a new medication. Fish appeared as the central card. It made NO SENSE. The medication had nothing to do with urinary tract or other Fish ailments. My question had nothing to do with work or money. I was on the verge of abandoning the spread as. "off target try again tomorrow" but several of the other cards hit. So I researched.

From Helen's Lenormand Dictionary:

... Health: kidneys, bladder, dehydration, water retention (swelling), fertility issues, alcoholism, dizziness, loss of balance, health insurance ...

WOW. Suddenly Fish as the central card hit ... Health Insurance is a central theme that affects the other cards.

Fish is one of the cards that, as a new Lenormand reader, I struggle with.

I understand it in the context of money/finances. In terms of health too I can see how it would work.

It's interesting to read about your experience, and it highlights to me how nuanced these cards really are, and how it's possible to take a step sideways to see how they fit into a context that they are not normally associated with.

I have had a few readings recently where the Fish turn up in readings that are more to do with feelings in a non-financial sense. I posted one of them, ,but have had a couple more since. In all of them the card seemed to indicated a sense of depth and intensity (abundance) of specific emotions. The card, in the more general sense, seems to indicate depth or amplify whatever surrounds it.

What was the card combination when you saw fish as emotion? Sorry, no offense please, but that is unfortunately a new thing in Lenormand, it is not the traditional meaning at all. For emotions, there are other cards, like the Heart. Fish is simply abundance. Many fish in the sea. In old days of course the Fishermen very only successful if there were a lot of fish in the sea. But it has nothing to do with emotions really. I know sometimes it is difficult to see the money aspect when Fish show up. But then try to use value. A valuable relationship etc.

I so wish I'd made a note of the reading as I was thinking of earlier, when I posted my reply, because there was one specific reading I wanted to use as an example. I can't remember what cards they were, just that after a lot thinking about different ways in which I could take the presence of the card in a setting that was not at all related to finance I realised that it was about an individual who had an abundance of painful emotions (deep depression). Not a context that I was expecting for the Fish. I'm so sorry that I didn't make a note of it, I really wish I had because it would have been helpful to get someone else's take on it!

Well that happens to all of us, not taking notes. 😆But interesting, that it showed up like that.
