Beginner's choice of deck

I resonate with what @CuppaT said. If I had come across the first post (and set of posts) in this thread when I was a squeaky-newbie, I'd have said, "What in the name of heaven are you talking about?" Of course I did go on to learn a lot of what has been posted here, but after I had already begun to learn Tarot, which indeed was one of my springboards into these other matters. But for beginners: the kindergarten version is the way to go.

I do appreciate the information here, though; it consolidates and clarifies much of what I've learned over the years and added to it as well. Thank you for that. I still think it should have had a different title. And then the for-beginners version could have the actual title of this thread.

Buyer's remorse? I think we all have had that, even after we have already been studying for decades!

Same here. Of course things are different these days than they were when I started. Tarot was some kind of special card deck that you could use to tell fortunes, and you had to mail off for them. I never even saw a deck (except briefly, here, lol) until I opened the package. Even the book departments of stores in the major cities didn't have them on the shelf.

But now people see this stuff online. In a lot of ways that's worse, because they're seeing TikTok witches and Instagram influencers who use Tarot to brand themselves. They're getting all kinds of silly ideas.

Scandinavianhermit's list might not be the questions new readers come up with on their own, but they're the right questions. Great for preparing the soil. 🤓

December 3d 2024, I condensed what I attempted to say. That message probably serves the purpose better, than the too ambitious unfinished series of posts did.

I imagine, that somewhere out there a newbie sits, disappointed with a deck with a Popess and with Strength numbered 11, and, somewhere else, another disappointed newbie sits with a High Priestess and with Strength numbered 8. I wish to prevent both those things from happening, not to mention the several rival systems of Hebrew letters on trumps.
