You cant read with those ,they will turn in to dust before you even shuffle them .What is considered legit RWS or Marseille deck ?Deck published by whom ? You can go somewhere like gallica (I've done the search for you) and it lists over 2000 images for playing cards and tarot decks. You'd then download them and print them yourself (using a POD service, or even a home printer if good enough). You're free to do this so long as you don't make a load of decks and sell them, as gallica has policies for this. A lot of old decks you see that are sold on places like etsy do this. Whether they follow the rules about attribution, and paying gallica a %, I don't know. But it's these kinds of websites they get the images from. Also if something is over 100 years old and the artist is dead it's out of copyright. But museums and places like gallica do something a bit shady, which is copyright the images of an old deck. So the deck itself is free to use, but their images aren't. It's caused a lot of legal battles over the years and is quite interesting to read about 😊
gregory Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 There's a genuine used Lo Scarabeo one on ebay right now for £45. That's a very reasonable price. It IS in colour - but once you buy the real thing, you can scan it and remove the colour if you REALLY want to. I think the only black and white one I can see on etsy right now looks iffy; I would want to know where the "maker" got their images from. In fact - I have just asked.
