Bouquet + Coffin - your thoughts beyond "flowers for a funeral" or "cancelled invitation"?

Bouquet + Coffin. Most texts give something along the lines of disappointment after we get past the literal meaning of a funeral bouquet / cancelled invitation.

2 words = joy [bouquet] ends [coffin]

But I wonder if it can also show happiness [bouquet] about an ending [coffin]. Some endings are beneficial. Some endings are a gift.

Is this sugar-coating?

I suppose larger context is needed. If other benefic cards surround the combo it might allow a more positive take. Whereas malefic cards would reinforce the negative aspect.

I got the combo in a 3-card daily, so not much context from other cards. The disappointment meaning hit, but I also feel happiness about the ending of certain things. So that more benefic read hits too.

Your thoughts?

In my experience, when Coffin (and Death) is read within a lower timeframe, such as a day or a week, it can speak to silence or a pause.
Another meaning that I've observed is appointment. In my first language, German, the term for appointment is "Termin", which has the same etymological derivation as "termination". A set date, time-bound.
These are the funny nuances of meaning that can arise when reading in different languages.

In combination with bouquet, it can mean a bag of potting soil. Or the idea of potting. Associations in lower timeframes become more literal and object related, I find.

The way I learned it (via Andy B. ) matches what you said about Bouquet + Coffin (when reading only those 2 cards). Attendance based on order, he calls it, with the first card being the main subject. The example from his book that's closest is Letter and Coffin. For Coffin + Letter, the loss or termination is the main focus of the message, and the letter is the way we hear about it. (e.g. getting word that someone is ill, or an obituary). For Letter + Coffin, the news or a letter/email is the focus, so it's more neutral. (e.g. getting an email that your staff meeting is canceled this month, even if that's a relief, or being asked to write that email and send it to staff.)

So we could say that Bouquet + Coffin can mean that your happiness is the main focus -- happiness concerning what? -- concerning an ending, or even someone else's loss (schadenfreude). Whereas Coffin + Bouquet would definitely be negative.

(I know you're reading a line, but I'll add that in a GT, if the Coffin is near the significator, for me this pair gets more complicated than the above.)

OMG!!! This is so funny. I just had my little herb garden dug up so I can start fresh. I put 2 plants in pots already and have been obsessed over the question: what to plant in the ground and what to plant in pots? 🤣 I never would have thought of potting soil, but it hits. Thank you!

Exactly. Glad you brought that up. My dailies are a 3-card triangle, so Bouquet was the theme card [i.e. first or more prominent of the pair]. And I followed a reasoning as you mention. What is the gift/happiness? An ending.

And there are some things i feel happy to put in the rear view mirror. So it hit.

p.s. God save me from schadenfreude. It's such a guilty pleasure. But I have my moments ...

I think Andy emphasised  the directionality of several cards, one of which is the Coffin card. What's to the coffin's left is ended, what's to the right contaminated/negatively impacted.

So Bouquet +Coffin is more like happiness lost, a negative pair. While Coffin+Bouquet is definitely not the most welcoming sign, the pair paints a somewhat more positive scene: there is loss/ ending, but the Bouquet still manages to provide some saving grace (negatively impacted by the Coffin it won't be able to reach its maximum positive potential tho). In one of my recent readings on hiring I drew cards for a candidate and he got the trio Coffin-Mountain-Bouquet (not exactly Coffin and Bouquet next to each other but a similar dynamic), he didn't get the job due to certain burdens and obstacles, but managed to part with the company on good terms.

Well, I can say that Bouquet + Coffin was a potted plant that died. .We transplanted some various plants and the oregano didn't make it. 😞
