Pulled into tarot

Featured Replies

Hello! I'm brand new to tarot. Well, mostly; I had a deck when I was a kid that I dabbled with a little bit and found intriguing. It's been lost to the sands of time across multiple moves and a couple decades at this point.

My wife and I were on vacation recently and we were exploring a cute little downtown nestled in the mountains a few hours from where we live. We walk into a crystal shop. While neither of us are into that stuff at all, she finds the crystals pretty to look at. I was struck by an enormous tarot display in the back of the store. I was brought back to my youth and began to reminisce. I chatted with the shopkeeper for a few minutes but ultimately didn't end up purchasing a deck. I felt a pang of regret as we headed back to our hotel.

As we sit down on some comfy leather chairs by a warm, roaring fire after dinner, I saw the Taschen Tarot book sitting among some other coffee table books. What a coincidence! I began to read it casually and before I knew it, two hours had flown by. I took the book back with me to my room and spent the rest of the evening pouring over it before returning it the next day.

A few days later, my parents who are vacationing in Europe text me a picture of some cute, medieval-looking tarot cards that they came across. Another fascinating coincidence! At this point I almost felt a weird kind of a pull towards something I hadn't thought about in twenty years. It's time!

After doing a little research, I am about to purchase the US Games Systems large Thoth deck with some relevant books. 😁

I Like this path you are on, welcome to the forum.

Wonderful introductory story, @Angband !  It does seem as if you have been 'called' to experience tarot.  Welcome to the forum, and best wishes for your tarot journey.  A few too many 'coincidences' here to be only chance, I reckon.   🙂

Welcome! It’s a slippery slope. Before you know it you’ll have 900 decks and scrambling for places to store/display them 😆

Thank you all for the warm welcome! This seems like a nice community.

I did ultimately decide to start with Tarot de Marseilles instead of Thoth, but all the traditions look fascinating and I'll get to them eventually.

I have to say that of the "main three" I think Thoth is the hardest - unless - like a few people I know in the tarot community - it HAD TO BE THOTH. (Many of us here will remember Lillie... She and Thoth were pretty much a single entity . But few are like that..)

Welcome to the world of obsession. It's great here. We have cookies.

Welcome and , is there such a thing as coincidence? Asking for a friend.

Yes,. Answering for the hell of it !
