New Moon in Sagittarius Spread

✨🌑✨  Since Sunday night/Saturday night is the New Moon and we are starting a new month, I thought that we could play with a spread that rides those energies.

 

New Moon energy can affect us in two ways.  Because the Moon governs our emotional body, our feelings and needs are surfacing.  Think of the Rider-Waite-Smith XVIII image of the ‘Moon’ with the lobster creature climbing up out of the water.

 

The Sagittarius archetype supports cultivating a relationship with the Divine.  How can we trust that things will work out and that there is always a higher purpose to all that occurs in our lives? (Position 1)

 

Sagittarius energy is fast moving and highly creative — easily bored and constantly seeking new stimulation and adventure.  (Positions 2 & 3)  Sunday night finds us still in the first Decan of Sagittarius to which is assigned the Eight of Wands.  The Eight of Wands just wants things done rapidly.  The emphasis is more on how fast and less on how well.  Processing the aftermath of this can require compensating balancing measures.  XIV, Temperance — is the Major Arcana card associated with the sign of Sagittarius according to the western Hermetic system. (Position 4)

 

According to the ‘Decan’ system of Western Hermetic Esoterica, the wheel of the year has 360°.  There are 12 signs of the Zodiac.  The zodiac houses span thirty degree sections of the wheel going counterclockwise. Aries is the first house and Pisces is the twelfth. Each of the house is further subdivided into ten degree segments called decans or decanates. The Minor Arcana tarot cards (two through ten) are assigned to each decan. The eight, nine, and ten of Wands span the entire house Sagittarius, for example.

 

From there you can see the suits are not arranged in order. They are assigned to houses with the same element. For example all Wands correspond to fire signs. So the next order of wands can be found in Leo, then in Sagittarius.  Aces and court cards are assigned for longer periods than 10°. 

 

Also, according to the Tarot Netivot system, we are entering a new month that is aligned with the powerful Netivot or female archetype of Doreshet or the ‘Seeker’.  Her gifts are questioning and listening, traveling, intellectual inquiry, pilgrimage, and dialogue work of all kinds.  XII ‘The Hanged One’ is the card for this archetype.  (Position 5) ✨🌑✨
