16. Would the Knight of Swords describe himself as 'romantic'?

No, he is not romantic. Unless you think that having a debate is romantic. If you prefer a dinner by candle light, than the Knight of Cups is your romantic Knight.

No, I don't think he'd consider himself romantic. He'd be more the type to read a book or watch a tutorial for ideas on romantic things to do with a loved one.

I don't think he would be romantic in the 'grand gestures' sense. However, I do think he would have the image of his perfect woman in his head. He would try to impress his ideal woman with his wit and would laugh her into bed.  ;D

I think he would, because I am sure he would be taking his date to very classy restaurants and shows, museums, formals, etc.  He might not bring flowers and be all "gewy", but I could see him wine and dining her at the best of the best places and he would consider that romantic.  So I say he would say he is romantic, though personally I like flowers LOL.

That's a good point! Just because he approaches it on the mental plane doesn't mean he doesn't think he's not romantic. :D

He can when he wants to be. Kind of a Rhett Butler type, I guess - lots of mental sparring but some grand gestures, too, if that's part of his strategy.

No he can't be romantic. He can sweep you off your feet with charm and swift communication. But its not romantic.

Hardly anyone would say he was romantic, but *he* might consider himself romantic. I don't think he'd bother with grand gestures and charm at all unless it was someone he cared about (in his swords-like way).

Which means I need to change my answer above. :D The fact that he's even reading a book or watching a tutorial for ideas means he's going to a lot of effort!

Well I got knight of swords a lot for a guy from my past. He is a Gemini. Knew exactly what to say but was a player, not a romantic. Just knew how to pick up women and get women talking about themselves. But his interests were changeable so he would be cold the next day.

He's your knight in shining armour type of air tends to dream a lot and neglects reality till the dragon roars in his face.

Ah.

Did he consider himself a romantic? (Cos he definitely doesn't sound like he was romantic.)

I would lean towards no because he would not view himself as the traditional romantic

God this questions is tricky. Everyone has fantastic answers and I can't make up my mind.  :o

I have to define romantic and then go deep into the psychology of a swords character and then throw in his motivation, and possibly family values. Way Too Complicated.

The only thing I know for certain about the knight of swords is that he's not *my* idea of a romantic soul.

That's the thing, there's semantics afoot.

So - here's the Oxford definition of "romance": https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/romance

Several people have said 'no' since the Knight of Swords can be a player type, but have a look at those definitions...

I think that the Knight of Swords thinks that he can be romantic and even passionate, given the right impetus. That won't be too often tho.

I agree with this. Its more that he'll do what's necessary, not naturally.

Does it have to be a Gemini?

I know the King is an Aquarius

No, he doesn't think he's romantic.  But he is an archetypal romantic hero for all that; virile, aggressive, ruthless, intelligent, dynamic, successful.  An alpha male.  He's even riding a white horse!  Katrinka said Rhett Butler  <3 and I totally agree.  But Mr Darcy, Christian Grey, et al, - all Knights of Swords.  (And romantic heroes usually are players - until they are tamed by the heroine, of course.  :-\ )

The Knight of Cups would be better at remembering to bring flowers but on the days when you need rescuing from a dragon....  (More seriously, I always doubt that the Knight of Cups is going to stick around when the novelty wears off.  Too good at romantic dates, less good at changing nappies?)

Long term, of course, the Knight of Pentacles is the one who will remember your anniversary.

The Knight of Wands will be hit and miss in the romance stakes.  Sometimes he will get it just right by instinct with all that impulsivity.  You can see him eloping to a romantic runaway wedding or impulsively sweeping someone off their feet.  But he'll forget to buy his partner a birthday present if something exciting new and shiny distracts him on his way to the shops.

Fascinating discussion.  I love how everyone's mileage varies: I suspect it depends very much on what floats our own boats when it comes to romance.  ;D

I always see the Knight of Swords as a sports person type person, they might have a killer body and the confidence (turning into arrogance) with it. They are so action orientated and direct, they will go and ask someone out and might be a little tactless. But they can be charismatic and intelligent but a little over hasty rushing around!

They might sometimes be romantic but I don't think they would ever describe themselves as romantic, they would say they were a stud or a good catch with people lusting after them  :) The challenge with them is to stop them rushing around and slow down!

I agree with this.

Yes, he would describe himself as “romantic”.  He is capable of passion, affection, tenderness and all.  But when logic takes over, his gestures are not so romantic to the receiver.

Posted

He would think of himself as the dashing, romantic Knight of old. In reality its all in his mind.  There may be some gestures here and there, but Romantic? no. Leave that to the King of Cups.

I think he could turn into a romantic guy if the right person finds a key to his heart. But honestly, he would never be such a romantic guy as a KoC, but in his swordish way he can do a lot for his lady.

He most definitely is not an alpha male. And he can never be tamed. The knights have lifelong issues with emotions. The knight of cups may give in to romantic passions, but these knights still can't deal with any kind of emotional maturity let alone a commitment. They have many many lovers and they travel a lot.
