tarotnottaken Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I recently got a Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua deck that I was excited to use, but a little information insert says that it has "not been treated with chemical varnish, so may not be suitable for shuffling." What does this mean? Can I never shuffle my new deck without fear of damage?! This is the only information I've found, which did not prove helpful: https://www.cultoftarotforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=813
gregory Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 They are OK for overhand shuffling if you're careful; they are NOT OK for riffle shuffling. and I wouldn't do that swirling them around on a table unless it is covered with something velvety !. And they are more susceptible than most to liquid spills and greasy hands (as in wash hands before use !) I have shuffled them with no issues. What I have done with decks far more fragile than these is shuffle and draw with a robust deck and then pull the cards I've drawn out of the deck I want to use. Think Boltcutter or the One in Ten, where the gold paint STILL sticks to the next card, even though I have owned it for years now. That will NEVER shuffle.
DanielJUK Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Just a FYI, we don't usually allow linking to outside threads and other tarot communities from here. However we do allow to communities which are now archived and / or closed. As Cult of Tarot is sadly officially now closed, it's okay to link to this thread in this instance 🙂

I didn't research these Anima Antique decks carefully enough, I guess. Is there a Minchiate deck out there that I can riffle shuffle until the cows come home, like my Artisan Tarot decks? 1 hour ago, DanielJUK said: Just a FYI, we don't usually allow linking to outside threads and other tarot communities from here.
