Decks you let them go, but got them back because you missed them?

Recently I got this old deck from 1970s.  I used to have the deck about 15 year ago.  In fact they were so cheap and abundant for sale, I had a few of them.

But one day, I sold all of them because they didn't speak to me very well I felt.   I didn't have the deck for at least 10+ years.

Recently, I suddenly missed the deck, and wanted to read with it.  I got one in good price, and it arrived a few days ago.

It was like feeling of reuniting with an old friend whom I haven't seen for long time.

Which deck was it?  It was the SWISS 1JJ deck.  It seems to be reading and speaking to me a lot better this time.

I put it on the desk with the other decks I use daily such as RWS, Thoth and Kabbalah Decks.

Have you got any decks you have the similar experience with?  The ones you did let them go, and then got them back again?

What decks are they?  How did you find them when they returned to you?

I also bought the Swiss 1JJ again. It is printed on flimsier cardstock now and I think the cards themselves are narrow compared to before. I have so many decks with pictorial lesser arcana, like the RWS versions. I want to learn how to read by number and suit just as fluently as I can the other decks, so it greater knowledge of numerology.

The 1JJ cards were always narrow.

I can't relate to this - I have never got rid of a deck except the occasional accidental duplicate.

I rebought:

Madru Das Baum-Tarot

Light and Shadow Tarot

Hermetic Tarot

Victorian Romantic

I don't remember the stories behind why I lost or sold each of these, only that I missed them and wanted them back.

My new 1JJ deck was in the deluxe version which was in a box with the medium sized guide book and a large sheet depicting the celtic cross spread.

It seems to be an original print from 1970s with the thickish stock and beautiful colour printing.  The decks is designed in USA, but printed in Belgium says on the box.

The box which houses the cards is thin unlike my older copy sold off 10 years ago which was a proper heavy duty box with a lid.

Bought another deck which I had one before, but did let it go.  It is The Prediction Tarot by Sasha Fenton.

The deck was worn out by either heavy use or storing in damp by the seller, and a couple of cards had minor damage, so I was not too happy with the deck when arrived.  But it was bought for very cheap, and I wanted the deck back in my reading Tarot collection, so just cleaned it up, and added to my Tarot drawer.

Again the minor cards are TdM style, so it is only good for numerological and elemental readings.

Oh yes, I have. Some years ago, I was lucky enough to find the Roots of Asia Tarot, fell in love with it and bought it. Then I met a young woman at a tarotist meeting and she seemed to love it so much, so I exchanged it for another deck. I thought it would be in good hands. Ha ha. She sold it pretty quickly, and it was OOP already then. I felt weirdly cheated, I'd never have given it up if I had known that she didn't really want it. Well, life can be nice at times. I came across a very reasonably priced copy of the deck and re-purchased it. I'd never let it go again. It's such a gentle, kind and wise deck.

Then there is the Tarot of the Holy Light. I bought it when it came out and like it. However, something in the book went against my grain, some unsubstantiated claim by the author, and it made me doubt the whole deck. I let it go but continued to think about it.

Well, some years later, the black and white edition came out and I knew that I had to have it. The colouring had been too harsh for me, it ruined the alchemical-manuscript-vibe. So I bought the bw version and couldn't be happier! It's a wonderful deck, and the second time around, it's much easier to work with it.

Sometimes, I wish I didn't discard my Hudes so quickly. By now, I have become so attached to all my decks that I wouldn't let go of any of them, I think... because I have learned that sometimes,  you have to wait until you can re-discover a deck. All those Youtube videos about curating collections etc are nice to watch but actually doing it myself? No way 😉

I recall the Holy Tarot.  I had the deck, and it looked very nice.  It was more expensive than the other usual decks, because it looked classy and very nice with good colourings on each cards.  I think I sold the deck to buy some other deck, and it was sold for more than I paid for, so I was quite pleased at the time.

I also had the Hudes as well.  The Hudes was sold off on eBay at the time, to buy some Tarot books.  It was also a nice deck I recall.

Now I just use Thoth Deck, and some cheap Chinese printed RWS decks 3 or 4 of them in different size.  They are for just daily readings.  I also have some other TdM decks and Eygptian tarot decks to change over, and they seem doing ok reading for me.

What arrived to me latest was the Tarot Vintage deck.  It is a RWS deck which has artificially aged looking cards.  I didn't expect too much from it because it was really cheap.  But wow, it feels quite good to shuffle and also nice to read with it.  I am using it tandem with the other older decks, and seems working great.  It doesn't give me good readings with the positive cards for some reason.
