alethian Posted March 5 Posted March 5 The youtube tarot readings mostly seem to be done by the each horoscopic signs, 12 signs in total. Some readers do monthly, and some weekly and sometimes with the bonus reading for each different signs. But there are 12 signs in total, and there are billions of people living in the world. How does one sign reading cover the whole people of the sign in the reading? Surely there can be billions of people sharing the same horoscopic sign, and would the reading cover all the people under the same sign? Does it make sense? Are there any principles or theories that the horoscope sign based tarot readings work for all the people under the same sign? I am Aquarius, and there must be billions of folks born under the sign, in all different age groups, sexes, locations, characters, and works beliefs, families ... etc etc. How does the reading supposed to be for me, and for the billions of other Aquarius folks living in the world right now? Any explanations?
RunningWild Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Those are all general readings. Also, they’re for entertainment purposes. You take away what fits and ignore the rest.

Any explanations? This is a topic that has been much on my mind as I recently started a YT channel. In past I dismissed the collective readings as "Barnum Effect". I.e. if content is vague enough people will tend to believe it applies to them. There are certainly many YT readers who have risen to success on Barnum Effect. Vis a vis astrology it becomes more nuanced. I use Vedic Astrology b/c its astronomically accurate. So, with Gemini Rising, Jupiter has been in my H12 [12th house] which is often characterized by increased expenses, spiritual growth, and potential loss or separation from male or male identified partner. These have all held true for me. Of the millions of Gemini out there--it's likely they are also dealing with these issues in one form or another. So it's possible a collective Tarot reading for Gemini [sidereal Gemini] will touch upon H12 issues such as increased expenses and thus be more accurate than pure Barnum Effect. Astrology aside, Is it possible that *some* YT readers are able to tap into a collective consciousness? Good question. As I've been watching this content to study it, I've come away with the feeling that some YT readers have *something more* than pure Barnum Effect. But only a few. In my personal practice I'm experimenting with whether or not its possible to connect with groups of people. I have come to the conclusion that it *is* possible, but its a different skill than the normal 1 on 1 reading. I would also say that this skill is rare and even in someone with the talent, it would take development. Similar to what the previous post mentioned, I believe most YT readings rely on Barnum Effect. If you happen to hear something that applies, it's a fun coincidence. And even with readers who may legit have the ability to connect with groups--the accuracy will depend on whether or not you fall into that Group they're connecting with [if that makes sense]. DanielJUK Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I saw this recently as well for the first time, it was recommended into my YouTube feed. So generally, the video tarot readings tend to be; a general reading for the month (like this is going to happen in the universe) or pick a card from some laid down (usually 3). However this new twist is merging astrology and tarot. The astrology vloggers do horoscopes each month or each week, etc. It's generally recommended now that you pick one based on your Ascendant / Rising sign (rather than the old newspaper ones by your sun sign). If you want to be really complete, you can get the Ascendant Sign first, then sun sign and then moon sign, this is more of a complete picture than just one. However the video that was recommended to me was a bit strange I thought. The reader made 12 videos for the month and they had a huge lot of cards (2 tarot decks and 2 oracle decks laying on top of each other). You had to pick a sign that could be your ascendent / sun or moon. I felt that picking one of the 12, had no actual astrological baring, it was really just picking a random pile almost. There was no astrology in the reading, it was just a card based reading for the month. My opinion about it was that it was very complicated and a lot of cards, it would be very confusing if you didn't read cards at all. Almost like too much info. Then again, I am a reader who likes to go smaller and detailed. It's a current popular trend in tarot and card videos right now but takes from the astrology communities horoscope videos which get many hits. The videos I have seen had no actual astrology associations but it was just a way of dividing up 12 general readings for a length of time.
geoxena Posted March 5 Posted March 5 (edited) On the tarot channel I used to watch, the reader conducted tarot readings only during live streams. So, people would login and anyone could ask a question in the chat. He offered free one-card readings to people in the chat, and multi-card readings for anyone who paid to be a member or made a SuperChat donation. For those who pay, he sometimes adds i-ching at the end of a reading. It would go quickly and for about an hour. He built a very supportive and friendly community there, which was obvious because I would see many of the same people show up for every Live. He has a warm vibe and the live streams were a lot of fun. He seemed to pay attention to how a person worded their question and tried to zero in on the meat of the matter. Of course, he has a disclaimer that states it is all for entertainment purposes only. He does other kinds of videos as well - some philosophical, some with a spiritual bent, some Q&As, and some deck unboxings/flip-throughs. Edited March 6 by geoxena

Hope that he is recovering well, and will return to his channel soon.
alethian Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 (edited) I mostly watch this youtube tarot reader recently, mainly because he uses Thoth Deck. I find his reading good, but it can sound all too optimistic and new age style. I prefer more worldly predictions for daily life with negativity side of life too. Edited March 7 by alethian

I actually didn't know that Tarot readers on YT conducted readings that weren't based on astrology. I've been watching these videos (more or less frequently) for five years, and based on the ages and subscriber counts of many channels, I really doubt that this is a recent trend, as you say.
