This is what happens if I try to post an image:

LavenderPiXiu.thumb.jpg.c677a26792f2323fa5d946d483a2b949.jpg

Just regular JPG images that would normally work.

The smilies are being a little wonky too. I used to be able to type :fa and bring up all the smilies with "face" in the title. But now I only get these three: :default_meditate: :icon_farao: And this big one :balloon_fas:
Or if I need to see the hearts, :he used to bring them all up but now it's just :herz:  :cheesy: :redheart: :bubble_bhehe: :balloon_che: and :batting-eyelashes:. Not the one with the arrow through it, or the one with the sparkles, or the one on fire, etc.

But that's a minor quibble. I can still click the smilie icon at the top. I have to go through all of them but I can eventually find what I want. It just takes longer. The images are what's important!

Hi,

I recommend clearing your browser cache, images messing up like this is nearly always because of corrupted stored browser temporary files.

I can still see the smilies with those codes fine on my browser 🙂

If you let me know your browser(s) you mostly use, I can give you step-by-step instructions. Basically in the browser settings, clear your history and temporary internet files / cache and then it will load everything fresh and it will solve this. There is an option with this to delete cookies and I recommend not removing them or you will lose all your logins everywhere.

Cleared the cache. That always means signing into everything again and recovering passwords, ugh. But I did it.
Annnnnd - nothing's changed.
I'm using LibreWolf, it's a Firefox clone. I was using Waterfox previously with no issues, but this laptop won't let me install it.
https://github.com/BrowserWorks/Waterfox/issues/3685
All of this "bundling of runtime libraries or additional option during setup which would offer download and installation of "VC 2015-2022 Redistributable" is beyond my skills.

Is it fixable for LibreWolf? I don't want to look for other Firefox clones, my connection is slow and it takes forever to download the installation files, plus I've spent all day recovering passwords and getting things like my start button, etc. the way I want them and I really don't want to start over.

I mean, I guess I can use my phone to post pictures, Or install Chrome and open it when I want to post photos (I loathe Chrome) or see if my old laptop will charge (there's something broken in the connection for the power cord, sometimes it works, sometimes not.) But I'd really like to just use LibreWolf.

I've researched on the issue and it seems to be a problem with LibreWolf. This is from the official Invision community forum.....

https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/471455-avatar-corruption/

The posted examples are the same issue as here. Invision only supports "modern major browsers" and so I think they won't support it 😞

I'm sorry, it's beyond anything that we can do here as it's the browser and forum software.

I think it would be good to find an alternative for posting images that you like. Last year there was a bug with Firefox where you couldn't divide quote boxes to reply to them and it took them a whole year to fix it. I had to always use Chrome to give feedback 😱. So it is worth having a back-up

I'm afraid you're right. Absolutely right.
I wrote a review for an amazon purchase and tried to upload a photo there. The same thing happened.

I agree that it's always worth having a backup. I've installed Chrome. (Everything always works in Chrome, I just don't like it.) But I'd really like to use one browser instead of jumping around all the time. I'm going to try out Brave and Vivaldi. If I don't like either of those, I'll try regular Firefox and see how bad it's gotten. Years ago it was the best one out there but everybody says it's ruined now. Still, it's best to see for myself and not just take peoples' word for it.

Thanks for looking into it!

ETA: I'm trying Brave now. The photos work beautifully, but I'm having the same issue with the smilies. Go figure!

It's no biggie, though.

Trying Vivaldi (it seems faster, I like that.)

:fa

:rofl

Smilie codes are utterly not functioning. I can only bring them up by using the smilie button at the top.

Photos work nicely, though. But I think I'll end up uninstalling this one. I need my smilie codes!

Brave wins. And Chrome is there if I ever need it. (Hopefully not.)
LibreWolf was a bit tricky to uninstall. I'm glad it's gone.

Smiley codes are rubbish here now - the defaults are mostly black and white and boring.  I go to the smiley button and pick one !

Yes, I've noticed the 'meh' ones.

And some of them never get used. Like these big ones:
:balloon_nau:

Maybe one of these days when staff isn't too busy (ha! Slim chance of that, I know. It's just a thought.) we can have a smilies drive. I'm sure a lot of us have some classics. I know I do. Some of them are even inoffensive, lol.

I add my own. At one point invision messed with them all, and I asked LIttleFang, but it would be a major issue to set them as they used to be, so not a priority. So I add my own....

That sounds like a plan. I'll put mine in a folder, get them convenient and all in one place.
And I'm stealing the one you just posted!
Some of the best ones were at photobucket, I had TONS. Alas, those might be gone forever...
