JamieLynnB Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Hello. I’m trying to locate a tarot deck that I remember seeing. Native American deck, not Angels or Ancestors, but maybe close to that name. Not the Native Tarot Deck by Gonzalez. Thanks.
Libra 58 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 What about this beautiful deck: https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/native-american-2/
DanielJUK Posted June 9 Posted June 9 There is an Angels and Ancestors Oracle Deck by Kyle Grey. It's an oracle deck, not tarot and has 55 cards It has Angels and the ancestors come from Aboriginal, Native American, Celtic, and Earth based spiritualities. https://www.hayhouse.co.uk/angels-and-ancestors-pocket-oracle-cards-card-deck
RavenOfSummer Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Could it be the Vision Quest Tarot? https://benebellwen.com/2017/05/03/the-vision-quest-tarot/
FindYourSovereignty Posted June 10 Posted June 10 This is a new one The Great Spirit Tarot and this is an old one Medicine Woman Tarot.
katrinka Posted June 10 Posted June 10 (edited) There's several decks called the Native American Tarot. This one has been around since the 80's. It's a nice enough deck. I might still have my copy around here somewhere. But I stopped using it years ago because it has the same issues that ALL of these things have. Longish article, but well worth the time it takes to read it here. Tarot is just a really bad fit for Native American culture. It's a completely different perspective. And Natives have already been exploited to a surreal degree. Plus there's the fact that most of these decks were done by pretendians and plastic shamans. The Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards that FCP mentioned would probably be the best option. For one, it's not force-fitted into a Tarot structure. For another, Archie Fire Lame Deer actually WAS a Lakota and a practicing Wicasa Wakan. But you could learn more from his book with Richard Erdoes, Gift of Power: the life and teachings of a Lakota medicine man than you could from that deck. And many Lakotas find it objectionable that he packaged these concepts and sold them to white people. If you think about it, they do have a point. I decided long ago to leave Native-themed cartomancy strictly alone. You'll do what you want to do, of course. But as for me, I'm not going to sit here on stolen land adding insult to injury. Ferrea Posted June 16 Posted June 16 For the record, I just came across this one: Tarot of the Southwest Sacred Tribes by Violetta Monreal. Looks lovely, but probably OOP.
