Raggydoll Posted December 7 Posted December 7 I’m looking for inspiration and would love to hear about any decks (tarot or oracles) where the artwork is rendered in ink. It’s fine if the artist added some color, but I want the art to be predominantly ink and the shading to be done in ink (not just outlined in ink). Two decks that come to mind are the Wild Unknown and Tarot of the Abyss. I own the former but not the latter. It would be cool to see more decks that are done completely in black ink, like the tarot of the abyss. I am honestly not looking to buy more decks but rather wanting to look at different inking styles for inspiration and artistic nourishment. I’m doing an artistic ’depth year’ of sorts where I’m focusing on getting better at inking, and I have been drawing with ink every day since last spring. It’s been so much fun! Do share pics of suitable decks if you have them!

Rose Lalonde Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Fun! You've probably seen it but the Hanged Man below from the Pen Tarot The tarot by Mauro Garbarino is all flowing lines and white space. (I was obsessed with this deck for a few years, but by the time I found a copy, I knew an Eteilla deck wasn't going to be go to for reading, so for the price $$$, I turned it down.) I do have Tarot ReVisioned, which in contrast, has very little white space. But the detail and shading. The Pendragon has straight lines to shade which is a style I like. In this deck, I like it best where lines come up against each other at different angles, like in the Knight of Pents or the Ace of Cups where wavy meets straight. Great that you've been doing pen and ink daily. It takes a sort of plunge-in attitude to work with ink or watercolor, I think, since you can't make them lighter after the fact.

Rose Lalonde Posted December 8 Posted December 8 ...also, not a tarot, but in the Maybe Lenormand, I like the way Edwards plays with width and curves. It lifts small, spare drawings with basic crosshatch shading to another level.
Raggydoll Posted December 8 Author Posted December 8 So many different art styles, what a treat for the eye! Thank you all, I will look into these decks later!
gregory Posted December 9 Posted December 9 Diary of a Broken Soul from Ash Abdullah. Pemcil rather than pen, but all black and white.
