January is a good time to calculate your card of the year. Simply add the numbers of this year (2026) + your birth month + your birthday, and keep adding the numbers until the sum is smaller than 22.

For me, it's 14, Temperance, which I can reduce further and get 5, the Hierophant. Now that's very nice since I'm a Taurus with a rising Sagittarius, so two of my strong astrological influences show up for me this year.

Does anybody else do that? I'm not big into numbers, but a Card of the Year is good to know. It can give you a first whiff of what the year's about to bring. Temperance is always a good card for me, it means that things are moving at the right pace: festina lente, walk, don't rush. And Hierophant slows this movement down - I hope I won't have any more stagnation, thank you very much, I had enough of that over the last few years. But Hierophant can also mean: learning, going back to roots, getting comfortable with tradition. What do I choose for myself, what do I leave behind?

I like decks where the Hierophant is depicted as a wise old tree. For me, this card means deep roots and wisdom that has grown over the years, not dogma and inflexibility.

So what about your cards of the year? What do they mean to you? (I hope that I opened this topic in the right place, if not, my apologies to the moderators.)

@Nemia Thank you for starting the thread.

I calculated my card of the year also and this year it is 16 (The Tower)- card of upheaval, chaos, and sudden changes. It makes me nervous to say the least. When added together it is 7 (The Chariot)- movement, moving forward, taking control, and keeping balance. It would definitely be interesting how it goes. I have also read at Tarot Forum that a person' card of the year actually starts on/after their Birthday that year.

I am glad yours is Temperance and Hierophant and it would be fun to know by the end of the year how it all went 🙂

Thank you for the thread!

My card based on this method is also 7. Chariot 😀

Time to take the bull by the horns and make some life changes this year.

My card is 8, Strength.

But doe´s that mean I´m getting strength or doe´s it mean that I have to be strong?

I hope it´s the first, because I´m so exhausted that I hardly cope to stay awake more than 12 hours a day.😫

There's an older thread on the forum about this (and it's fine to start a new one)....

One thing is that there are different methods to calculate it and different versions from different authors so I recommand sticking with one or you will be so confused 🙂

Because it uses your birth date and month, I always do it from birthday to birthday, like not new year to new year. You can make it work for you however you want 😄

My Card is 8 = Strength or Justice depending on the deck.

As per Strength or Justice. I definitely started the year with legal matters [Justice]. Strength also hits in a less specific way as per becoming stronger as health improves.

In Vedic astrology we do a similar practice. Number 8 = Saturn. Which I'm not particularly happy about as he's the Great Malefic 🙄

Mine is 8, Adjustment

8s are balanced - and that is what I have felt is not present in my life.   I have been actively working to bring balance, to practice mindfulness, and to integrate that as part of being.
