Your deck with the most number of cards

Which among the decks in your collection is the T H I C C -est, i.e. has the most number of cards? Do you feel like they're too complex and that they require more effort to learn? How often do you read with them? Would you recommend them?

I love <3 decks with lots of cards! Extra majors, Happy Squirrels, extra courts, extra suits even - these all set my avaritious heart aflutter.

The Minchiate with its 19 extra majors has 97 cards so my Williams Minchiate is up there in my collection. I haven't really explored it yet, but I definitely will in the future. :)

With extra Magician cards, extra minors, and even an extra suit, Tarot D: the Didactic Tarot tops my collection tho, with a formidable 102 cards in total. It also has big, matte, colorful, and larger than life cards, so it's one of my absolute favorites! Sadly, I don't read with it too much now, but I do intend to pick it up again soon. :)

I have the Fifth Tarot which has 92 cards (22 majors and 5 suits).  I LOVE this deck, and once I got a grip on the "Ether" suit (the 5th element) I really connected with it.  I have not used it much in a while, but that is only because I am making a point of exploring a different deck a month.  But for personal work that is my go to deck.

I recently purchased the Dreams of Gaia it has 81 cards.  Just got it recently so I have not really worked with it yet, but since it is elementally based I am quite sure I will enjoy reading with it.

I have The Kings Journey with 94 or 95 cards. The Minchiate has 97, so those two take the prize for my collection.

The Parrott Tarot has an extra court card for each suit, the Mentor.

I've been eyeing the Silicon Dawn for the longest time, Flaxen. I love the art!

Hello friends!

Just off the top of my head, i would say that my Aura Soma Tarot deck [art by NZ visionary artist Pamela Matthews] has the most cards--115, i think?

It is my most gorgeous deck and yes--a bit unwieldy--but this deck is sooooo worth being creative when it comes to shuffling, etc. i have both the Grail backs and the bottle backs. The bottle backs are out of print, although i heard that Pamela discovered a few. If she still has any left, they won't last long.

The bottle backs are mostly for people who are already working with the Aura Soma System.

The grail logo backs are really lovely, too.

If one decides to purchase this deck [it is a bit pricey, but totally worth it iMHO] i highly suggest also purchasing Pamela Matthews fantastic handbook. It is very high quality with full color pictures.

Everything can be purchased here: [Decks are Out of Stock at the Present, but are supposed to be getting more of the Grail backs most any day. [says Feb 1018!]

Here is a great review by my friend, Kasia [TarotMap]:

I have the Ancient Minchiate Etruria, with 97 cards. I find the deck difficult to work with, in that there are no titles on things and I often confuse, say, the Lovers with Gemini, etc.

my LoS machinate with 97 I love this deck and was fortunate that FireCatPickles gave me a lot of help when I was first working with it.

I've had Oracles with more, I think the Shell Deck had about 200

as did the Maj Jong deck and Tea reading deck

Have sold/traded them off, too many cards. I prefer 60-80 for oracles

and don't even bother with oracles that have 36-48, too many repeat draws.

I'm so curious about the Minchiate. Like is it true that it is more straightforward than most Tarot decks, and in that aspect it's quite like a Lenormand or Sibilla?

Also - 200 cards for an oracle? Whoa!

Posted

I couldn't tell you, as I barely read with that deck. It's essentially new. Never took to it.

The Cosmos Tarot and Oracle has 100, I believe. 78 “tarot” cards and 22 oracle cards.

I have the Mythical Creatures tarot that has 82 cards, and the Steele Wizard tarot that has 88. But that seems very few compared to some decks that are listed in this thread, lol !

Ah, I also have the Silicon Dawn with its 99 cards. I have a strange relationship with this deck : I like it, like the art, admire the artist, but I dont read with the deck. I find it difficult to read with it.... and the fact that it has so many cards, and that it is not clear (to me) how they are organised, is maybe one of the factors that makes it a quite difficult reader for me.

I think that we should also add here the 90-card Tabula Mundi Colores Arcus by Meleen. It has the 78 cards + the 12-card Zodiac expansion cards. I don't have it yet, but I definitely will in the future.

156. Viceversa. I want to get the Minchiate also, now that I know what it is. However, I’m unfortunately attracted to the woodcut art one.

I also have the Vice Versa and it only has 78 physical cards. It has at least 156 card interpretations tho, with 312 possible if one also reverses each face.

Welp, I think we have a winner. Does anyone know of a Tarot deck with more cards?

That's hard to beat. I remember reading about a deck with an extra set of majors and a whole extra suit (Suit of Bridges, I think?), but that's all I can recall. It probably won't beat the Aura Soma, though.

Mine are my Minchiates:

Minchiate Etruria, by Lo Scarebeo

Minchiate Florentine (Al Leone), by the Fournier museum of cards in Spain

Brian Williams' Minchiate (my personal favorite, and the only one I have ever used for a reading)

I had Il Meneghello's Minchiate at some point, but let it go.

Ah yes, the Radiant Wisdom Tarot has a full Suit of Bridges, but no extra majors. At 92 cards, your Michiate decks still beat it, FLiz.

The Williams Minchiate tho. <3 I know it's heresy, but I can't help myself.

Yeah, you win, gregory. ;D

The four of us who had a complete set at the time (there is now a 5th person with all the cards) did a reading circle with them. It was great fun.... I still have it somewhere - but I have no way to ask one participant if she's OK with my posting it...

POLITELY SNIPPED

. . . (there is now a 5th person with all the cards)

"I am not a number"  LOL

Well obviously I am, being the fifth person with whole set. They are quite easy to shuffle too, as they are a neat poker-size. I have Aura Soma too - with the bottle backs - picked up in Glastonbury charity shop! you never know what you might find.

I have had oracles with 200 cards - the sea shells and tea leaves, but never found either of them spoke to me very well, so am moving more and more to tarots.

Actually I didn't know you had the complete set - the last I saw you were still collecting. My apologies - that makes 6 of us. The person I referred to was asking for help at the end of the AT thread, and in the end she got the lot; I didn't name her as she isn't here as far as I know...

Six is a nice number - I don't mind being number 6  :)
