It's strange, but nobody has created a thread yet for one of the most highly anticipated decks this year - the Game of Thrones Tarot. I feel like even non-readers might take a gander at this one if only to fuel their obsession for the TV or book series.

I remember feeling a bit down when its November 2017 release was postponed. Now it's going to be out next month, and there's no indication that it will be delayed again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! If there's any deck that might break my moratorium, it's going to be this one.

I'll be interested to see the full deck and the rationale for choosing what to go on each card. I'm scratching my head a bit over some of them. I'm also a bit wary that this has been created before the story has actually ended. There are lots of assumptions about how it will end but we don't know for sure.

Will add it to my collection though as I did enjoy the books.

Tbh I did have other characters in mind for a few of the cards. Let's see tho.

I've never seen the show but I am almost finished with the first book, on audio CD.

I like the art of the deck and I'll probably get it

but I expect like the Jane Austen deck and the Harry Potter deck, even if the stories are well known there aren't 78 characters we'd know on sight

My favorite characters so far are the Direwolves

I am really on the fence about the deck.  I love the show, just like I loved all the Harry Potter books & Movies, but I am just not sure I want it in my Tarot collection.  I'm trying to avoid adding novelties to my collection and stick to decks that I think I will really use, and like Flaxen pointed out the story is not even finished.  Ramsey as the Devil just points to pure evil but to me there is way more to the Devil than pure evil so I am thinking there will be other cards that are shallow in meaning like that so that is why I am sort of seeing it more in the "novelty" category.  I am sure once it goes OOP it will end up being a good collector deck to have due to the popularity of the subject matter, but again I am not sure that matters that much to me personally.  Maybe if I can get it in trade some day I will go for it that way, who knows.

AFAIK know, the publisher of the deck, Chronicle Books, partnered with HBO in crafting this deck so this is pretty much the official deck of the TV series. I think I read somewhere that the next season (which is Season 8 ) is going to be the final season of Game of Thrones? If it is then there is a huge possibility that this is the only GoT deck that would ever be released. Also if it's the only season left, then I don't think the events there would have such a huge impact that the choices for the cards would be invalidated.

I'm not even thinking of the book series since there is an utterly low chance that it's ever going to be finished. Book 5 was published around the time Season 1 of GoT was released. Season 7 has come and gone and still, no whisper of Book 6. They say it's going to be a 7-book series but again that's not a sure thing. As a medium, I definitely love books more than TV or movies, but at the rate things are going, for me at least, the GoT TV series now defines ASOIAF, not the incomplete book series that has caused many of its fans so much frustration.

My only beef with the deck is, again, a few of the card choices, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Let's see :)

I'm torn on this deck--on the one hand I feel an urge to get it, on another I can admit that I'm waaay behind in the series anyway and that I won't know if I'll actually appreciate it unless I get into the series again and decide whether or not I like how it goes... I like some of the choices that have been made, but a few of them have me scratching my head a bit wondering why they were chosen over others.

I'm honestly kinda hoping my mom will see it when it comes out because she's the one who bought me all my GoT DVDs. Knowing her she'd jump on it as a present for some occasion, but I'm not sure I'd be able to put my own money towards it... (Though future self might smack this self if future self is back into the series and regrets not having bought the deck when it was available. If it indeed sells out and stays OOP.)

...although honestly, seeing the pre-order price at Chapters has me wondering if it would be worth it. o.O I was expecting it to be jacked, but it's not nearly as high as I was worried it would be. I do quite like the art style. But then again, maybe the fact that I can say I'd jump on a BBC Merlin deck (provided the art was nice) yet not on this one says something. Hrmmm. :/

Just watched a walk-through of the cards and I'm not sure about. It seems the same characters are used over and over again and, when you think about how rich the series is in memorable characters, that's really disappointing. I'd probably get it as a collector's item but I can't see that I would read with it...

I knew I would have this same issue when I saw Jon Snow as both the Emperor and the King of Cups  ??? Such different personality types to be using the same character for them both, when they could have used someone like Tywin Lannister as the Emperor.

Game of Thrones is so well known for having a large amount of characters, yet they stuck to the same handful of people.

I'm not sure if I would get it or not...for now I'm on the fence about it.

Even before I've had an issue with some character choices. I just wish they hired a better consultant. I'd still buy this tho, until a better GoT deck comes along at least.

I also noticed in the video reviews that the cardstock is linen?

Linen ? That's interesting

I think once I've finished throwing a tantrum and pouting over it, I will most likely buy it  :))

I am passing on this deck.  Love the show, but this is not a deck I would ever use so I am not getting it.  I have to draw the line somewhere LOL.

I've ordered it. As decks go it's inexpensive and I've heard good things about the production quality. Not a huge fan of Liz Dean but decided to take a punt. I loved the books and I'm loving the TV series.

ETA: It was waiting for me when I got home last night. I ordered it from Blackwell's via Abebooks (For some reason about £8 cheaper than from Blackwell's direct!?). It is indeed very good quality. Sturdy box with a hinged lid. The cardstock is a linen effect. Seems to be a very slight tackiness to the cards that I am sure will wear off. They are neither cardboardy nor slippery - thumbs up there. There is also a very nice little cloth bound hard back book. Both deck and book are presented in recesses with little lift up ribbons. A very nice package. I understand why some people are frustrated with the character choices and absence of some. From what I have seen though I'd say it's been quite thoughtfully done. Yes some characters do repeat across the major and minor arcana but the book explains the particular scene or episode that relates and there are some interesting choices. I'm quite impressed, it's better than I expected. I will definitely be reading with this deck as it seems to be much more than a themed novelty.

I ordered it even though I haven't watched the series or read the books (When the first book came out Mr. Martin killed off my favorite character about half-way through and I saw how it was going to go from there,  ::)  but the cards are interesting.    Can I read with them?  We shall see...

There are a lot of plot spoilers in the Little Red Book if you ever want to read or watch the books or series :)

I might just go with this one, too. Certainly a G of T fan. Now, I wish someone would think of doing really fabulous Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica (modern version) Tarots, too.

And, of course, a Downton Abbey one for good measure. (I am not being facetious).

benebell wen has a review today, so a good look at all the cards

https://benebellwen.com/2018/05/01/the-game-of-thrones-tarot-oh-yeah/

I'm about 1/2 way though the second audio book.

there are plenty of characters I'd like to chop off, but the Imp is a favorite and it seems his part is always written  black rather than white.

I saw a blurb on Amazon that the author will soon be out with a prequel, set way back in time.

why does the Liz Dean name sound familiar? Is she the Australian astrologer?
