Whisper Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 What do you think of the Shakespeare Tarot? Really interested in your opinions. Thank you kindly. <3
Whisper Posted February 25, 2018 Author Posted February 25, 2018 I want it SO bad!!! I have to say I think it's really, really interesting. I love Shakespeare anyway. The deck is US$45 which surprised me. Deck and book a more hefty US$75. I think it would be a great addition to my collection. Do you think you might spring for it with a little time, Saturn?
katrinka Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 It's lovely. I haven't looked at all the cards yet, but for the most part it seems readable. The female Knights are a bit jolting in this context, though. If any of you get it, let me know how it reads for you.
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 It seems like the creator put so much thought into creating the deck. The discussion of each card in the site is excellent, and it also has a 372-page companion book available! It might have enough stuff to set any Shakespeare afficionado's heart aflutter. I'm not one by a stretch, but I'm excited to find those characters that I'm familiar with. The esoteric discussions in the site is simply astounding. It does have a different set of correspondences between the majors and Hebrew letters, as he started Aleph with The Magician (since it's Atu 1 after all) instead of The Fool as in the GD system. This is understandable since other decks use this system too. Some of his astrological attributions are also a bit curious (Aries for the Magician, Aquarius and Capricorn aside from the GD Virgo for The Hermit, etc) but they aren't distracting.

There is a lot on each of those cards.
katrinka Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Thank you! It's uncomfortable sitting on a fence, lol.
gregory Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I absolutely love it. Not least all the stuff about it on his website (assuming it's still all there...) I haven't actually read with it yet (the demise of AT slowed my reading rather) but I think it could be done. But as tarot study it is quite riveting, and I have also learned a lot about Shakespeare's works. (Side comment - I love coming to threads with this title; here I was all ready to say WHICH ONE - but this time it was linked :) )
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Oh no. Another one for the wish list. It just piles up, doesn't it? :(
gregory Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 This one I would put a LOT higher than most, for the sheer detail of thought.
gregory Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Oh by the way - I think the stuff on his website (I went to look) covers what's in the book well enough. I didn't get the book because I was too mean ! I downloaded the lot instead.

I didn't get the book because I was too mean ! I downloaded the lot instead. Well, that's good news because I was planning to buy the book. If you think it isn't necessary, I'll do what you did, gregory. Thank you for the tip.
gregory Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I may be wrong. It may have more in it - but there is one HELL of a lot on his site ! I don't know how much more there can be...

ripperruss Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 I was just talking with Chris and he tells me there is quite a lot more in the book. He thinks downloading from the site is ok but says it would be hard to read from the screen while reading cards compared to reading from the book. Each to their own.....
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 this is the first deck I ever backed and to me it was well worth it. Chris is ultra approachable and responds swiftly. I got the book as I always do when it is an option. I also backed his Dickens deck which is winging it's way to me. I finally used my gold pen and wrote the titles on the back of each card and suspect I will do the same with Dickens. This would never be a deck I'd do readings for others so why not :)
Whisper Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 I love this deck and will probably buy the Dickens one, too. I bought the accompanying Shakespeare book, but feel that the information on Chris' site is good. The book gives a lot of information which is great, especially for a Shakespeare lover like me, but when it comes to card meanings, etc., I find it a little bit of a let down. I took a gold pen to mine and am happy with the results.
gregory Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 LOVE it and also love the Dickens. He knows both his tarot and his literature.
Venus Rising Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 It's a beauty. Definitely going on the get-it-soon-wishlist. :)) I cannot believe the amount of detail that has gone into both the cards and the info on his site. I'm also going to pony up for the book. I prefer being able to step away from the screen when possible, and 372 pages sounds epic. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous deck!
