Jewel Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 I love and collect faerie decks, I will admit that my view of the faeries is not that of the Victorian sweet faeries, but hey I love faeries so are all welcome in my collection lol. I would love to hear your honest opinions about this deck and the companion book. I am not looking for simply an art deck I want something usable, so I am interested to hear from you about how it reads, and that sort of thing. I appreciate any insight you guys can give me.
Saturn Celeste Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 I love the deck. The card stock is that thin Llewellyen stock that I don't care for but if you riffle shuffle like I do, it's fine. The fairies in this deck remind me of a children's book. The images are happy and light, the way I like my fairies to be. I don't know much fairy lore so I don't know how accurate the images are but I have so many 'heavy' decks and once in awhile, I need to just feel light and this deck does that for me. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/victorian-fairy/ A darker fairy deck I have is the Secret Forest http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/secret-forest/ I also have the Faerie Enchantments Oracle, the images are stuffing. It's by Ian Daniels who does the Tarot of Vampyres http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/faerie-enchantments-oracle/ edit, what the heck did I mean by stuffing?
Jewel Posted February 28, 2018 Author Posted February 28, 2018 Thank you Sun Celeste! I used to have the Secret Forest, in the end images on both sides of the cards just ended up not being for me. I LOVE the look of the Ian Daniels Faeries Enchantment Oracle, will need to research where to get that as I would eventually really like to add that to my collection. I also have my eye on the Faerie Forest Oracle: An Oracle of the Wild Green World. The Llewellyn card stock does not bother me at all, and I do sense that children's fairy tale book feel to it. I also like that it is borderless. As I love collecting faerie decks I like faeries of all kinds so want to learn more about this deck to see how folks like it.

Flaxen Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I saw the Faerie Forest Oracle the other day at the bookstore and the images are lovely. I have the Faery Forest - some of the cards are really quite beautiful. Some images below: It reads well and the book it comes with is quite detailed.
sandrang123 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Hey Jewel, I agree about the card stock quality. Here is the review I did on-line a bit ago: I debated about the Fairy cards, given that I'm not generally inclined to fairies/fairy lore, but BOY am I glad I decided to get this deck anyway. It's making me a fan of all things fairy culture! The cards themselves are beautifully rendered, with rich imagery that can heighten the intuitive aspect of interpretation and readings. I also love--love, love--the companion book, which is written with such grace and sensitivity--a truly wise book to consult. I further appreciate how the author highlights connections across cards, too, such as the spiritual transition from the 5 of Autumn to the 6 of Autumn, or how the 8 of Winter can quickly escalate to the state of the Burning Oak. And I love how other cards, such as the 5 of Summer evoke the traditional image of The Tower in other decks. There's just so much to glean from these cards and the companion book. I'm beyond delighted. I will say that if you're used to other decks, the changes from the traditional wands, cups, pentacles, and swords to spring, summer, fall, and winter court can be a little non-intuitive first, but I don't mind the challenge to think a bit differently here. I also am quite taken with the changes in the Trumps, from the more traditional depiction of Strength (woman and lion) to Fortitude (with a beekeeper). And the take on The Lovers (in this deck The Fairy Bride) changes the way I've traditionally read that particular trump, again in interesting ways. Definitely a keeper deck! Hope this helps! Sandy
Jewel Posted March 1, 2018 Author Posted March 1, 2018 Flaxen[/member] that deck is really calling to me ;D Thank you for the added images. I am more interested in picking up a tarot but I definitely need that deck in my life LOL. sandrang123[/member] thank you SO MUCH! That is exactly what I was looking for. I am sold now :). I doubt I will have any trouble with the suit changes, that is no big thing for me as I can relate to the seasons very well. I also do not mind some changes to the majors either. I have plenty of "traditional" decks and enough experience to easily branch out into some variations.
