Erotic Decks

So - erotic decks. Which ones do you have in your collection? Which are your favorites and why? Which do you enjoy working with, and which ones did you immediately trade away?

 

The discussions here might become a bit explicit. If some readers do not like nudity in their decks, I fully respect that, but it may be advisable to skip this thread. In any case, we're all adults here, and this thread is NOT meant to be prurient. Sexual imagery, symbolism, and arechetypes have been part of even the more celebrated Tarot decks like the Thoth for example so I personally don't find anything objectionable about them.

 

Erotic decks are just a more explicit manifestation of this energy. While a few of them might seem devoid of any relation to the Tarot at all, just a bunch of sexy images slapped unto 78 cards before the artist called it a day, others pulse and tantalize with a seductive and (paradoxically?) sage energy. Even the former might have redeeming features - someone may resonate with the images so much that they give good readings with it. So yeah, we might have differences in opinion, but even then, we can definitely show some respect to each other's views.

As for me, I only have one erotic deck. It's the Eros: Garden of Love Tarot and I like it a lot! It's fun, quirky, and it also gives accurate readings. Also, it's so pleasant to the touch and as per usual with Uusi's offerings, the card quality is top of the line.

 

I do plan to get more erotic decks in the future. I have Giacomo Casanova's Memoirs (not the entire set tho), so I think that the Tarot of Casanova might just be up my alley. All those masks!

 

I also like the Tarot Erotica by Lori Walls. It seems so kinetic, with a wild and fervid energy all its own. I also feel like there are depths locked within its images that one can explore if they're intrepid enough.

 

I'm very curious about the Sensual Wicca Tarot tho I'm not Wiccan or pagan at all.

Yes, objectifying women is a danger that some erotic decks do fall into, and I resent that too.

 

I have onle one erotic deck, the Decameron, and I really dont like it at all. I wont go into details as to why I strongly dislike it because I have done it already in another thread here (the worst deck purchase thread). I dont have, but am aware of, two other decks : Manara tarot, and tarot of Sexual Magic, but they are not top of my list for reasons that I have also explained in the same "worst deck purchase" thread (mostly because all the women look the same consensual young-thin-conventionally-sexy.... sight...)

 

But I wish I has a good erotic deck.

I am very picky ! I want an erotic deck that has beautiful art, that honors and repects all people, that do not show sex as a power being used by a person over another person (please no rape-like scenes, no-one threatened or forced to engage in any sexual activity, please ! Only willing grown-ups, please - that seems like not a huge favour to ask for, but you'd be surprised at the number of "erotic" images with content that veers into imposing sex on someone !). Also, I would like a true working tarot deck, with images that I can relate to the traditional tarot cards.

 

Right now I have two decks on my radar.

One is the Slutist tarot , but I have only seen a handful of images, so I cannot really have a true opinion on it yet.

The other is The Pillow deck - Venus and her Lover Oracle deck, thanks to SaturnCeleste who called my attention to this deck. it's not a tarot but an oracle, with a limited amount of cards (only 32). So, not a tarot, but from the samples I saw, I really like this deck !

 

I am opened to suggestions !

While it does fall into some of the issues mentioned above (sometimes a connection to the RWS isn’t clear, the deck is majority skinny white ladies at the end of the day) I do think it’s great in that it’s not created by a dude, but by a woman who is a sex worker and wanted to make an erotic deck that uplifted sex workers, as well as explore sex (both the good and bad). It’s also a lot more queer than the other erotic decks I’ve seen, which is why I bought it.

I remember seeing a picture of the 7 of Swords that looked so much like what I associate with the 8 of Swords - a woman trapped in a cage. So that would be something I'd have a hard time with if I owned it. It looks very interesting though and if I hadn't become such a baby about erotic art in the last few years I might have looked into that as my choice for an erotic deck.

Thank you Lantana for reminding me about this deck.  I tried to buy it off littleredtarot a couple weeks ago and was unable to get through the password check so I emailed her and I was able to get through today!  Slutist Tarot will be mine when it gets here lol  I'm in the USA.  I have to seriously update my deck list here, I have a few new ones I'd like to get posted and update my erotic section. ;)

I don't have the Slutist, but I do have - many others. Most of them I don't find that "shocking." Most of them I don't find AT ALL erotic as such. I am devoted to the Giardino del Priapo.

I've got my Royo Dark Mini. It's... I've honestly never really considered it an erotic deck per se, but I've since found out that many other people do? (To me it's just a bunch of prettiness and gorgeousness and a handful of explicitly erotic offerings... But idk. For me nudity isn't inherently erotic, a body's a body at the end of the day, and while many of the poses are titillating... Maybe it's an area/generation/group thing that I don't consider it one? At least not the deck as a whole?)

 

Like others here I wish I could find an erotic (or even pornographic, that'd be great) deck I really click with. Most of the ones I've found have issues I just can't get past, though--the most prolific being the freaking artwork. I just don't like them visually, whether it's the colours or the style in general, I just. Ugh. (It's what's kept me from buying that Slutist deck, unfortunately, which makes me sad because I love that it's much more queer and sex-positive than most other sexy decks I've seen.) A kinky deck would be absolutely great, but I'd be so worried about an artist from outside the community not understanding what kink even is or basics like "safe, sane and consensual" that I'd almost rather it remain something people create for and share amongst themselves. (And now I'm just picturing people trading handmade kinky decks like cassette tapes... (>ω<❀))

I just got the Tarot Erotica and noticed some of the cards in that deck are very similar to the few cards I've managed to find online of the Amerigo deck.  I wish I had the money for the Folchi cards!  I'm very happy with the Tarot Erotica except the images are too small! lol

I have looked at the erotic decks section here and there and couldn't bring myself buy one because of the chauvinism issues and the uneasy scenes. But after a while I have decided to go for Decameron deck. The reasons are that this one feels more earthy and realistic to me. It shows different people, different ages and bodies. Also it feels quite balanced, even with the hard scenes. A deck too positive or too negative can't give a proper type of reading in my opinion. Sadly the sexuality of the human kind intervenes a lot with our shadow sides. And it's something, that for me, is important not to forget.

 

I have ordered Decameron, I have no idea if I will like it, but hey, I can try and see how it goes.

Sometimes, trying a deck out is the way to go. You might bond with the Decameron in unexpected ways. I hesitated so long about the Mary-El and, now, I'm so glad I bought it. It may not always be pretty or comfortable, but it is mighty powerful and empowering.
