What deck/s do you think would make good starters for a child?

If you're looking for one that is easy to read for someone really young, I highly recommend Dorothy Morrison's The Whimsical Tarot. It was created with the intention to help teach children tarot, while using imagery from classic fairy tales. The art is cute and easy to understand for a beginner. I actually use this deck a lot because it's so charming.

Though, once the child is old enough to have some self-identity, it'd best to help them pick one out for themselves!

I gave my 14 year old son Morgan Greer in a tin, along with a Rachel Pollack tarot handbook...  but I am on the look out for either a dragon themed one, or Merlin/king Arthur, because that's what he's into...

There is also the Mystic faerie tarot, (for a girl), which I dont think has been mentioned... or Spiritsong.

I have to agree to, it really depends on what the child is into!

Careful. Gender stereotyping is a no-no. I'm willing to bet many boys like it too. Until their sterotyping parents tell them not to ;)

Don't panic ! Just I happen to have a trans grandchild, and gender stereotyping  issues loom large around here !

I'm a mother and it seems to be license in real life, for uninvited and unwanted 'critiques' all of the time...including from total strangers  :-\

But yes you are completely right, interesting that despite my attempts to consciously raise my children to not be confined  by gender stereotypes, a little of that social conditioning still pops up...

Back on topic, I've used YouTube deck walk-throughs to check out decks before...  a good option if a child if a child is drawn to a deck but you aren't sure if it's ok for a young child  :)
