I have looked at the help pages here and they are singularly generic and unhelpful :(

I sent a message yesterday that was - in effect - wrong (I had things backwards, kinda, it wasn't rude or anything.). I realised at once and luckily I save all my sent messages by default, so I went to the sent box and I hit remove message, literally seconds after I sent it. I thought that was the end of it. Unfortunately not - it seems they still go out, and I just got a sad little one back from the unjustly messaged member.

For future reference - is a message, once sent, sent for ever no matter what one does (this was the case on AT, but I had assumed it wasn't here, as that isn't the case on carto; as long as it is unread, you can stop it going out. So I had sort of forgotten the way it was on AT...)

I think you got it right, once you hit 'send', it can't be un-sent. I wonder what SaturnCeleste[/member] has to add, as I'm pretty much a newbie in tech stuff. :)

OK - maybe that could be up somewhere as info.... I was afraid of that ! I doubt if it can actually be changed...

I just tried to access my PMs on my IPad and was not able to do so.  I will check this out on my own board and see if it works.  I seem to remember I was able to delete messages before they were received.  It might be something in the setup or maybe on the server.  Soon as I get on my desktop I’ll check it out.  I’m still snuggled in bed under the covers.  ^-^

Ok, I checked it out on my site and it does the same thing.  You used to be able to delete them but no more.  That option to delete email is just to keep your sentbox cleaned out if you tend to save them.

Is your site on 2by2 ? (No, I see it's wix, so that isn't necessarily the same...)  You CAN delete up to the moment it is read, on carto, but you never could on AT... I think it's down to the background software on the host.

No gregory, I have an SMF forum myself.  It's an adult site so I don't list it here. ;)  I've used SMF for years.  I think the AT forum was IPBoard or a derivative of that.  You COULD be able to delete PMs before they reached with IPBoard software.

NSFW!!!

I recently downsized from a huge IPBoard back to SMF.

AT was vBulletin I think but very customised! I never knew Carto did that, vBulletin has a customisation mod which does the delete pm whilst it was still unread but Solandia was very clever about what was added and stable and safe! Most forums cannot do that I think

Yes, but she said once that she would have liked to allow that as long as the PM was unread (not once it has been, as that means abuse can be hidden) - but that vBulletin woudln't allow it.

inVision seems to allow it but you have to go through a couple of hoops.

Fair enough. SaturnCeleste - I could only see the Wix thing on your listed-here site :)
