Week 3 this week

VGimlet - DruidCraft Tarot

A good thing since I barely glanced at it last week.      Hopefully the next two weeks will be more productive.

I am sorely in need of getting back into a rhythm with my tarot practice, and I'm hoping Deck of the Week will help! I think I'm going to be working with 3 decks this week- Rumi Tarot, Goddess Tarot, and Shamanic Healing Oracle. No real rhyme or reason to work with these three together, I just think I need all of their energy this week. These are decks that are great when I have deep work to do, and I think the Goddess is nice for transitioning to spring as well. I'll also be using the Goddess for my Circle of Seasons reading!

I'm in the same boat. Really want to get into a better rhythm.

Just got my Sacred India Tarot. Going to work with it this week. The book is fabulous. Will post as much as possible without getting on anyone's nerves.  ;D

Posted this over in last week's thread (ending today), but figured it would make more sense to bring this up here, since we're starting a new week.

Been wondering how I could move beyond the one card a day and if a two card a day would be better, clear enough but less time consuming than a three card a day reading...

Any thoughts?

Gorgeous deck Shivani! Excited to hear how you like working with it!

I'm also curious to know what works for others in terms of a daily reading. My go-to is actually a four-card reading, that I posted here a while back. It just always seems to set me on a good path, and gives me what I need to refer back to throughout the day. Sometimes I also just draw cards intuitively, just some number of cards that feels right in the moment. This is a great topic for discussion, curious what others say!

Hopefully we both get into a good rhythm this week!  <3

Just visited the Spreadapalooza: Your Go-To Spread for a Daily Reading thread you started, Raven. What a great idea!  <3 It would be wonderful to continue it. I like the spread you mention, here, and have copied it over to my journal. Also really like the idea of drawing cards intuitively. In a two card daily, I could see myself randomly drawing one card and then following up with a question like, "So?" and a second card in answer or for clarification...

I've been posting interesting spreads I find under Tarot Spreads, but it's been a little lonely over there, so I was happy that you pointed me to your Spreadapalooza.  <3 <3

I'm feeling very scattered at the moment - so many decks I wanna play with, but I'm distracted and all over the place so I doubt it will go too well if I choose many decks. Not sure if the faeries enjoyed doing a weekly spread last week (which I still haven't updated, whoops!) so I'll try and use them for any daily cards and use a tarot deck for the week ahead-reading tomorrow. The Everyday Witch Tarot has been on my mind for a while so..

Oh I'm glad, Shivani! Tarot Spreads has always been one of my favorite discussion boards, even from back in AT days. I need to get back to contributing there more! I would love to revive that discussion and get some other "go-to spread" discussions going for various situations  :)

I like your idea for the intuitive two-card draw!

The Sacred India is really beautiful.

I drew a card today, asking what mantra would be good for me to chant and the Saraswati showed up as the High Priestess. It's funny, because I saw her as myself, given that I'm linked to education and this goddess' world is that of learning and knowledge.

sita-saraswathi.jpg

Her mantra is a very good one for students:

Om Eim Sarawastiyei Swaha

Meaning: Om and salutations to that feminine energy which informs all artistic and scholarly endeavors, and for which Eim is the seed.

Then, I just followed up with another card whose mantra is one of the most powerful mantras in Hindu bhakti (devotion). It was Shiva in his wildest form (the Vedic god Rudra, the precursor to Shiva) as The Wild Card 0 - (the Fool). As the book says, "this god metamorphosed into Shiva, and is an untamed irrepressible energy, dementedly carrying all creation before him) (Arya 59). His message was this is a "fabulous time for ... long-term work in spiritual matters" (66) - really getting in touch with myself which I believe is the journey I have been on, now, for over a year.

sacred-india-tarot-fool-rudra-brahman.jpg

The mantra goes:

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe

Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam

Urvarukamiva Bandhanan

Mrotyormukshiya Ma]mrutat

Meaning:

1: Om, We Worship the Three-Eyed One (Lord Shiva),

2: Who is Fragrant (Spiritual Essence) and Who Nourishes all beings.

3: May He severe our Bondage of Samsara (Worldly Life), like a Cucumber (severed from the bondage of its Creeper), ...

4: ... and thus Liberate us from the Fear of Death, by making us realize that we are never separated from our Immortal Nature.

Shiva and the energy this deity represents is very dear to me, so I found it interesting that this card should appear on the footsteps of my significator. In fact, to be honest, I was hoping he would be the one to show up.

Okay, all caught up for now.  Yay.

For Daily Draws:

I usually do a three card spread, but sometimes 2, and rarely 4 but never more that that for my daily draws.  I try to do my readings in the morning before I leave for work, but sometimes I run out of time and don't do them until later.    I use a small top-bound wire notebook we got from a dog show (useful prizes, yay!) and I filled it with mostly 3 card spreads, but also a some 2 card and a few 4 card spreads as well.  For awhile I was just randomly opening it to any page, but now I am going through in order.  It has a handy elastic band attached I use to keep my place.

I got the spreads from AT, where there were sticky threads with 2, 3 and 4 card spreads collected over the years.

And yes, feel free to post your readings here.  No rules thread, after all.    (visualize pirate emoji here...lol)

Life seems to have calmed down a bit. I'm hoping to get back to a more steady use of the cards myself.

Dang, I forgot to sign up this week! I'm in with the Ship of Fools Tarot paired with the Wisdom of the Four Winds.

From the Ship of Fools Tarot, the Stars; from the Wisdom of the Four Winds, 'Kauri:'

stars_0002.jpg  kauri.jpg

The Fool and a young man look up at a night sky full of stars. In the companion booklet, Williams hints that when we lose hope, we also lose our ability to be awed. With wonder comes mystery; with mystery comes the realization that we don't know everything. After going through (or in the middle of) a painful situation, it's easy to lose hope when we think we know how things are going to turn out. These quotes from Pema Chodron give some guidance in line with the message of the Stars:

We sow the seeds of our future hells or happiness by the way we open or close our minds right now.

All you need to know is that the future is wide open and you are about to create it by what you do.

The Kauri is a coniferous tree found in the northern part of New Zealand. When the tree is damaged, it exudes a sap to close the wound. This conifer also sheds a great amount of bark and lower limbs to protect itself from parasitic plants and vines. The combination of these cards suggests that often the worst parasites damaging our hope for change is our own thoughts. Why not shed them and open up to the spaciousness and wonder of the night sky?

A Keeper of Words, the companion book to the Legend: The Arthurian Tarot, is truly mesmerizing. The stories are where it's at, and I've always been passionate about the Matter of Britain since I was a kid. I like this deck sooo much. I ain't getting any readings done tho. :))

Really like this reading, Bodhiseed! Pema Chodron's sayings are very true. Your final comments are so beautifully expressed. So often, we are our worst enemies through our own thoughts.

This week I'm going to be using the Wayfarer Tarot.

I'll keep up my practice of drawing Thoth and TdM cards alongside my DoTW draw as this is proving to be quite effective in helping me get to know these systems better.

My card for today is the 9 of Swords.

At first I thought it was about getting over anxiety, but the “shadow card” is the 6 of Wands. (I take the Little Red Tarot approach of the card at the bottom of the stack being what the card is NOT about.) So it’s not about overcoming anxiety, but instead sitting with it. I am currently working on an art peice (actually a birthday present for tomorrow) and I’m done, but not feeling completely statisfied with my work.

Tarot Youtuber Katey Flowers actually posted a video recently about seeing negative cards like the 5 of Cups and the 9 of Swords not as something that needs to be gotten over, but something that needs to be felt. So perhaps right now instead of shoving down my anxious fears, I need to sit with them and see what they can tell me today.

You know what, Lantana, I think that is absolutely true.  <3 Thank you for this insight. I'm curious how you feel just sitting with them. Whatever feelings I have, especially the sadder, darker ones, I sit with in meditation. I just let them be there with me and explore how it feels. I try not to identify with them. Just sit with the emotions as if they were guests.
