Ordered the Dreams of Gaia because I love the artwork. I understand that it is a different kind of Tarot.

Would love to hear from all of you about this Tarot: the good, the bad, the extraordinary experiences, what to look out for, etc., etc.

Please indulge me.  <3 <3

i LOVE this deck...yes there is a little learning curve, but the book is thick and delicious!

i have absolutely nothing bad to say....

Here is a review by my dear sister, Kasia:

I also have and really like this deck.  I have only worked with it a little, but the fact that it is a different system does not really bother me.  I think it is good to have variety within the collection.  This deck has a strong focus on the self and healing so a very personal style.  I think you will really enjoy it.  The art work is GORGEOUS, and as MoonGypsy said the book is really great.  I love how it breaks things up into what the cards represent in the past, present, and future positions.  I have nothing bad to say about it either.

I don't use it for reading tarot but I do use it for fantasy writers.  It works great for medieval stories with dragons. ;)

Just had a look at some of the images on the Internet.

The art is very beautiful and it is tempting but I promised

myself not to succumb to desire on seeing new decks in

this forum.  :)

I have the Goddess Tarot by Kris Waldherr, the Dark Goddess

by Ellen Lorenzi Prince (and various others of her decks), the

Gaian by Joanna Powell-Colbert - all decks with a female

orientation, and all which can be used for healing purposes.

I'd love to see you do some readings with the deck when it

arrives, Shivani!  Then I can observe and enjoy vicariously :)

I don't know how this missed my radar. I'm not really into nature-centered, Pagan or Celtic decks (tho there are few exceptions of course), but the Dreams of Gaia is something else. I'm going to check this out.

Thank you all for your feedback.  <3 <3

It arrived yesterday. I can't believe how fast Amazon.ca is at delivering. It is absolutely stunning and I will respect how different it is, although I plan to use it as I do my other Tarots.

For some reason, EmpyreanKnight[/member], I think you would both love and do really well with this deck.

I can see, too, SaturnCeleste[/member], how this would be great for writing fantasy. I might even take a shot at it myself.

The positive feedback is really encouraging. Much appreciated. I think I saw, somewhere, SaturnCeleste[/member], that you use this deck together with the author's oracle deck. How much greater is the symbiosis and resulting effect of this pairing?

It works great!  I find the meanings of the oracle cards ground the fanciful art of the tarot.  The pair really work well together.

The Oracle is very beautiful, too. Some say it is even better than her Tarot.

i have both of Ravynne's Oracles, and they are great! But...If i had to make a choice--her oracles or the Dreams of Gaia Tarot--there would be no contest! i love the Dreams of Gaia THAT much!

The 2 oracle decks by her are the Mythic Oracle and the Messenger oracle:

She's here with us???? Her work is splendid.

What concordances have you found, MoonGypsy, between the RWT and the Dreams of Gaia? Are they necessary? Even desirable?

It is gorgeous, Bookworm, but different from the other Tarots I have. Going to have to study it in detail.

Shivani, [as far as i know] Ravynne is not a member, here.

My BTW is for peeps familiar with some of her earlier work when she was known as Michele-Lee Phelan. [Like the Mythic Oracle and also a book of her artwork. She goes by Ravynne these days...xoxox

Sorry, MoonGypsy.  :) However, if you are willing to share your wisdom and knowledge about the Dreams of Gaia, I would be beholden to you.  <3

Shivani, sweet siStar... i can only say that i have mostly tried to use it intuitively [like an Oracle] and  occasionally refer to the fabulous book

Ideally, i really want to do an in depth study of Ravynne's system, but i honestly haven't dedicated myself to it, yet...

Also--Because i have been in the Craft for more than 35 years, that helps to give me a good foundation for study; and has helped in working with the deck thus far... xoxox

And there are some RWS influences which help here and there, for those used to that system.

Thank you. Love that! Yes, siStar. You are a lovely siStar, too. Just did a quick, first reading with the Dreams of Gaia, today and I can see that it is quite a remarkable tarot. My years with the tarot are many, too, albeit inconsistent, and I am so enjoying returning to it all and really revisiting with more depth and greater application. The book is fabulous.

Has anyone who has the Dreams of Gaia been able to work out which of those Majors correspond to the Majors of a regular Tarot (in the RiderWS system, for example)?

There are some comparable archetypes but the system is very different.  For example I can see various cards as representing the Fool (Journey, They Youth, The Maiden.  And for the Hierophant I see both The Sage and Knowledge.  For the Empress there are also a couple of cards that resonate with me The Mother and Abundance.  But I do not really find cards that represent The Chariot, The Tower or the Hanged Man.  This deck has more majors and the archetypes used are more in keeping with the purpose of the deck (to feel, grow, and heal).

Thank you, Jewel. What you say is true, but I'm glad to see that there are still some comparisons.  :)
