Thank you for finding a nice home here! I'm actually going to try this out the time. I have a week off Yay!

I'd like to join with the deck I just got tonight, the Wildwood Tarot.

(wow mobile typing lag typos. Forgive.)

I'm finishing up this week with the Tarot of the Absurd before I start with my choice for the new week. This deck is superb, with the only thing missing being a lwb (though she has a blog with some of the cards discussed). One day I might do a card by card study with it like I did with the Tyldwick.

Wow, it is great to see so many participants in this week's thread!

Mystical Tarot & Vintage Lenormand

The Mystical Tarot arrived last Monday and won't let go of me. In my eyes, it achieves the perfect balance between gorgeous and weird.

Did my first reading with the Fairy Tarot and it's a mixed bag. Not sure I'm going to gel with this one and I usually like fairies. This might be a long week... :)

Welcome to the DOTW sweetscarlet, Mindful Tarot, and Little Fang (bows to Little Fang).

Thanks for having us here Little Fang.

I am growing very fond of the Universal Fantasy.  Maybe because I enjoy reading fantasy, and the artist, Paolo Martinello, gets what fantasy should look like.

I want to join! I will use 2 decks: 1 Tarot, 1 Oracle I think...

Anne Stokes "Gothic Tarot"  &

Margaret Ann Lembo & Victoria Rose Martin's

"Angel Gemstones"

I am curious on how they might combine! This will be great getting back into the cards again. ;)

GOTHIC TAROT

Knight of Pentacles:  "So long have I waited in these halls of Darkness, ever vigil to my destiny. Yet here I shall stay, diligent to my tasks and wait for eternity to support my King.

ANGEL GEMSTONE

"Hematite" Is your mind overactive? Are you feeling physically hyperactive? Have you been sleeping well? it's important to be more GROUNDED. Imagine roots growing thru the soles of your feet into the earth. Allow disquieting thoughts and excess energy to drain away.

No separate thread for readings yet, so go ahead and share here.  We'll see how it goes, and then see what LittleFang wants us to do at some point.  :)

Oh, I kind of prefer this method! Gives me more to talk about on here.

I used the Thea for a reading on whether or not to try and reconcile a friendship (I burned a bridge a few years ago for dumb reasons and found myself regretting it) and the deck threw down some pretty interesting cards. For instance, the "how might this go" card was Six of Pentacles, which was a bit of a head scratcher until I realize that was what our friendship was like. They were the sort of person who expresses friendship through over-giving, and it made our friendship sort of tepid and one sided, so the card kind of asks if I'm okay with that being the case again or if I'm up to try and change that dynamic. Wasn't the first time this deck gave me the card in relation to a friendship question either!

And then there's Four of Wands for "how should I go about this" which kind of makes me go, huh?  :P Doesn't help that the Four of Wands is different from the usual RWS fare. No celebration with others, just a forest spirit reveling in it's own awesomeness. It's definitely a deck that speaks its own language.

Hmm.  The post office is running late today apparently, so no Deviant Moon yet. I'm interested to see if they jam it in the mailbox or pitch it at my door like a football from the sidewalk, like they do sometimes.

Today's Vintage Wisdom Oracle card is Adventure, which has a vintage Eiffel Tower image in the background. I wonder if that's a hint for me, my sister is taking me and my youngest sister on a mystery trip in September. All we know is that it requires a passport and isn't Sweden! I know she's wanting to return to Paris and it's an anniversary year for Disneyland Paris, so I keep thinking that's where we are going. It really could be anywhere, though.

Hello !  :)

I am sitting down at the table with my mug (thanks Bodhiseed !) and I am glad to see you all here !

I am starting this week with several decks, for the reason that on monday I take my kids for one week vacation in the ocuntryside at my aunt's, and I cannot imagine taking only one deck. Though, I promised myself to travel light.... but I have four decks in mind and I do not think I can go down to only two or three....

Main deck for the week : Alice tarot (my first and last deck on the AT-DOTW thread, and my first deck on TTM-DOTW thread !) I expect to have a little time during this vacation to go in more depth than usual, so I also take along the Alice tarot companion book, and on my kindle, the two Lewis Caroll novels Alice in Wonderland and Throught the Looking glass.

I probably will take along also :

the Vanessa tarot (my aunt offered it to me last Xmas and I promised to show it in action, though I do not think that she has realised that it is a divination tarot, she is under the illusion that it is a playing card tarot deck...)

the WIld Unknown because I have always wanted to have a little time to study it in depth, and I suppose (hope) I will find the time during this vacation ; plus I think it will be interesting to compare it to Alice

and a RWS just because. I'll take my Centennial RWS wich just today resurected from the almost- deads : last month, my Centennial deck got flooded with a knoked over glass of water on my night stand. I did not realise right away, but several hours (days ? my night stand is pretty crowded I am afraid) later. The bottom half of the deck had soaked up the water to the point that the bottom half has become twice as thick as the top of the deck.... the tuckbox had split open under the strain. I took the deck, separated it in 6 piles, and in each pile I put one card top up, one card topdown etc... to even out the pressure. Then I put all six little piles under 8 heavy Encyclopedia Universalis, and let it stay there for a month. I just today went to have a look under the Encyclopedia, and the deck was alsmot perfectly back to normal, wich really surprised me. I thought it would have kept more scars than that, but really, apart from a few water marks on the back of the cards, they are pretty good, all straight and back to their normal thikcness. So, I'll take this survivor of a deck along with me on vacation.

Friends : if you happen to wet a deck to the point that it is soaked, do not despair !

The mail just came! I happened to be on the porch so I ran out and it was handed to me personally, and the lady was super nice. Must not be the same person who throws my packages.

So today's card from Deviant Moon is the two of cups. Not sure how that relates to my day or life at all, but I do like the art. The first thing I noticed though is that the woman (midnight, according to the book) looks like she's having cramps, with her hand pressed to her belly. That bit I do relate to a bit today! Also, a co-workers wife is due any minute with their first baby together, and I've been excitedly awaiting the news. Maybe the baby will come today?

I love reading everyone's post, it is nice to have a combo reading/chat post. My card today from Pagan Cats is 7 of Cups. I've taken it as a sign I should binge on the Hallmark channels Christmas in July movies, which is my guilty pleasure and a relaxing Saturday for me. I'm also about to start crocheting a sun hat, so kind of a nice dreamy day.

The card itself shows a cat asleep in a lovely meadow, the cups float above him on pink clouds, and the cups are filled with cat-things, like yarn, catnip, etc. So I'm trying to take a break from worry, and let myself have some daydreams today.

Rosetta Papyrus

My husband and I are in the process of hiring an architect to start the process of renovating the upper floor of our rickety old house. I did two-card situation/challenge reading on hiring an architect. We have already interviewed two, and we will interview one more.

Situation: 8 of Disks -- Prudence. The card shows a healthy plant with eight branches, four on each side. Each holds a nest with one egg inside. An owl sits on top with its wings spread over the branches. Well, this project will certainly use up a lot of our nest egg, so we want someone wise to oversee the project. This makes total sense to me.

Challenge: 6 of Disks -- Success. This card has a honeycomb pattern as background. There is a large hexagon in the center. On each point is a circle containing a bee. In the middle is a smaller hexagon with a larger bee (queen=architect? The three we are considering are all women). A six-pointed star connects the smaller bees. The challenge is for us to do the work necessary  to find an architect who will then work hard and ensure that the other people who will do the actual physical work can do their jobs: create a hive of activity. There is also the feeling of creating a unified and balanced space where everything fits into its cell and connects easily to other spaces. A hexagon is, I believe, the strongest, most efficient shape -- or something like that.

Love these cards!

For today's card from the Wildwood Tarot, I pulled the Ten of Bows (wands).

The keyword on the card says Responsibility and right away I made the connection to running this forum.  This IS a responsibility, and it's important that I don't let anything overwhelm me.  It shows a man holding a large bundle of sticks while traversing a very steep and rocky path.  Sometimes things can feel like those rocks, but once you get over them, things are really not that hard!

Hello everyone,

Luckily, I managed to get onto AT before it closed to find out where the DoTW group was going.

I'd like to join in this week with the Mythical Creatures Tarot (the Baba Prague one, not the Jasmine Beckett-Griffin) .  I got this when I went to the 2017 Magic Prague Tour in April and have not had much time to work with it since.  Since I am also a BOTA member, I'll also be working with their deck too as an ongoing long term project.  Thank you!

Well, the title is a little misleading, I have done something like 2 readings with this deck over the few years since I bought it, but those readings were a while back and it's been even longer since I bought it. I also could not find any notes of me doing a New Deck reading with it, so I did that! I posted the New Deck reading for this in the Tarot Readings forum before I remembered that we were posting things in this thread. You can find my reading here; https://www.thetarotforum.com/tarot-readings/new-deck-reading-dame-fortune's-wheel-tarot/

Physically, I love the feel of this deck. As has been mentioned in the past elsewhere, LoS decks sometimes feel as though they're printed on somewhat thin card stock and so can feel a bit flimsy and cheap. It's pretty close to the feel of my old RWS. In fact, when I have them sitting next to one another, the DFW deck is almost the same height as the RWS. That's not a very accurate measurement, so pulling out my dial caliper; the DFW cards are all about .0115 inches thick, my old RWS ... is actually about the same. :D Seriously though, the cards are very nice to shuffle and work with. The finish is pretty slick-feeling, but not as much as some and, after I use it some, it should be feeling quite nice.

The imagery on the DFW Tarot is done in a style reminiscent of historic-style decks. The LWB states; "The designs for the Major Arcana have been based chiefly on cards from Italian and French Tarot decks that are both historically important and visually striking." However, the Minor Arcana cards are fully illustrated (in the same art style) and as such the deck initially has the look of being a blend of a TdM style and the RWS. But I found that wasn't entirely the case. The illustrations on the Minors, and the very brief meanings given in the LWB are often significantly different from RWS meanings. This will (as was brought up in the New Deck reading) cause me to have to think differently when working with this deck.

I the New Deck reading I did, the deck essentially tells me to have fun with the deck. That's what I am intending to do. I think I'll do some serious work with it as well, doing my daily readings and so forth. But I plan on doing some less-serious readings with it and seeing where it leads my intuition.

Posted

So, as I said in my previous post, some of the interpretations of the Minor Arcana are rather different in this deck from the RWS which I learned on. So, I'm wondering how they (these meanings) measure up to the TdM meanings for the Minors? I have not worked with the historic French or Italian decks and so am a little clueless about the meanings for these decks and how they differ from the Thoth or RWS meanings. So, here's a few that I felt I wanted to ask about and I'm hoping some of you here may have a good idea of whether the meanings coincide with the French or Italian historic decks ("K" is Keyword, "M" is Meaning and "R" is Reversed);

2 of Coins; "K: Confusion. M: Embroilment, agitation, perplexity. R: Document, letter."

5 of Coins; "K: Lover. M: Loving, boyfriend, girlfriend, to cherish, affinity, suitability. R: Disordered, chaos, ruin."

5 of Cups; "K: Inheritance. M: Succession, legacy, dowry, transmission, fat sorrow. R: Family, ancestry, marriage bond, hazardous projcts." (And I don't have any idea what "fat sorrow" means - do you?)

2 of Swords; "K: Friendship. M: Attachment, affection, relationship, intimacy, attraction. R: Falsity, lies, deceit, skin-deep, surface."

9 of Swords; "K: Celibate. M: Bachelor, virgin, religious man or woman, religion, piety, honesty. R: Mistrust, doubt, fear, timidity, shame."

2 of Batons; "K: Sadness. M: Melancholy, affliction, displeasure, dark thoughts, sourness, spite. R: Surprise, astonishment, marvel."

5 of Batons; "K: Gold. M: Wealth, opulence, magnificence, luxury, fortune. Enlightenment. R: Trial, litigation, wrangles, disputes."

These are the main ones I'm wondering about. These meanings are quite at odds with the RWS cards I've learned up to now. Fortunately, the images on these DFW cards go along very well with the stated meanings. So, for example, the person in the 2 of Batons does look quite melancholy. There are two people in the 2 of Swords greeting each other like long-lost friends. Many of the other Minors in this deck do fit in nicely with things I've already learned, such as the 6 of Cups referring to things from the past.

So, how do these card meanings work with what you know from the TdM or other historic decks?

I copied it from the study I did at Aeclectic to a document in case I couldn't retrieve it. I may copy and paste all 78 posts here if the mods would allow it.

The Paracelsus Oracle is going to be interesting to work with. It is based on the 16 geomancy figures, but this deck has two cards for each figure with a slightly different meaning. For instance, Fortuna Major (greater fortune) has one card that is about good health and another that means giving or receiving help. Its kind of nice to have 32 cards to work with instead of only 16.

I'm loving getting to see readings right in the thread! Like Carojulie, I sat down with my mug to enjoy this morning.

I started a Comparative Tarot study group, so my post about Tabula Mundi still isn't in this thread.  :-[ I wrote about a few of the similarities/differences between TM's Fool and RWS and Thoth. The nice thing about that study group is I can always come back to it and post about another deck's Fool too if I want. And of course I hope to eventually have a thread for every card.

Trogon, I sent you a PM re DFW just now.

Today's card for the vintage wisdom oracle is Shadow Self.

Today's Deviant Moon card is three of wands, which shows an expectant mother. I did just go to a baby shower unexpectedly this afternoon, and my co-workers wife is still anxiously awaiting their daughter's birth, so there is that sort of energy around today.  :)

I did a new deck interview last night with the Deviant Moon:

Tell me about yourself as a deck - 7 of Cups, which seems to have to do with relying on the subconscious.

What are your strengths - 9 of cups, which shows a genie. Wishes and choices?

What are your limits? - the Star, which is giving me a "the sky is the limit" sort of feeling maybe.

What are you here to teach me - Strength, so maybe inner strength and trusting myself?

How can I best learn from you - King of Pentacles. All I'm getting is maybe a sense of staying grounded?

What is the potential outcome of our relationship- the devil. I have no idea but this particular devil looks kind of playful. I pulled another card to try to get a better idea and got 6 of cups, which includes the devil as a puppet in a show. I'm still confused on that one!

I had the same Trogon when I was working with DFW last week. I've got the book that goes with this deck on order as I was sucked in enough to want to go deeper. I believe the deck is pre-Golden Dawn and draws on Both Marseilles and Etteilla traditions.

Starting to work with Lana Zellner's 78 Cards. I fell in love with this deck thanks to Veronica Jude's videos on YouTube; her modified version of the deck looks amazing and deep as oceans. And I am so delighted with the copy I was able to trade/buy from aquestionmark... it's a beautiful copy of the 2nd edition. The card stock is meaty, the images crisp and bright. And SOME of the cards are gorgeous beyond belief. The Magician. The High Priestess. The Queen of Wands. - I love Zellner's neotraditional American tattoo style, and her wit and often surprising depth (like the fact that the hand holding the sunflower in the Queen of Wands is itself tattoo'ed - a tattoo within a tattoo - and this meta-tattoo shows a flower, the word "burn" and a lion...)

BUT - some of the cards seem very undeveloped and bland, and the deck as a whole doesn't even attempt for cohesion beyond Zellner's own aesthetic. This deck was very much created one card at a time (and indeed, the border on each card indicates when it was completed within the sequence of 78.

But, and - my first reading with the deck was astonishingly articulate. Wowzer!

A three-card spread; what I call the Chariot spread. This is a mindful tarot spread - i.e. one designed to enable inquiry into whatever's arising in this present moment....

Center card ("the heart of the matter") Page of Pents, RX

Right ("what furthers, or enables, in this moment"): Justice

Left ("what doesn't further, what doesn't enable, in this moment"): Ace of Swords

This reading seems intuitively very clear - my present moment is this feeling of being blocked in the incipience of my engagement with the world. The centerpiece of Zellner's imagery for hte Page is a vase, two hands up to the sky, a pentacle and what seem to be laurel branches (same foliage in the Ace) emerging from the vase. A clock and purple flowers and more, thicker foliage at the base of the vase. A brilliant single blue eye over all - over the sunlike pentacle gracing the air above the vase. The Page's traditional meaning of new opportunities, of timeliness (like: now might be the moment to act) - a sense of being in the right place at the right time... but this is blocked. And what's blocking it? Well, there's a sense that Justice furthers this moment - this blindfolded justice; her scale is tipped (not evenly balanced, as it usually is in other decks) and her sword is drawn, but she can't see any of this. Justice is, for me, often the card of discrimination - of choosing between alternatives. It often signifies the potential heaviness of choice. But here Justice cant see; she just has to choose. Actually, she's already chosen: the scale is already tipped. And what doesn't further in this context? the Ace of Swords. Another drawn sword, another set of blinded eyes. Although in Zellner's deck the eyes are closed, and the emphasis here on the exposed brain. The reliance on discrimination is what doesn't serve. Choice maybe just has to happen, and I have to lean into that.

So this present moment: stymied in my ability to be present, actually. To be moved by the timeliness of what is before me. I need to analyze less, and be willing to let my scales tip. Justice and the Ace of Swords are truly complementary images in this deck. Both reinforce the sense of how I'm blocked, and how unblocking might look...

And here's that Queen of Wands...

I did a horseshoe reading with Tarot Decoratif this evening.

Firstly, it's a very beautiful deck. The mix of art deco styling and stained glass window is what first drew me to it, and the colours really glow within the black borders when cards are laid out together. I edged it with black Sharpie as soon as I got it, and on taking it out of its custom satin bag, I had that same gut response to it as when I first saw it. Just stunning.

I drew two Knights - swords for the past position and cups for 'other information'. I realised that the way the visuals work on this deck is that each suit has its own colour (blue for swords, yellow for cups, red for wands and green for pentacles) but to tie cards together visually across suits, the stained glass design in the background is the same, I.e. Knights have the same pattern, just different colours.

I had the Emperor in the 'challenge' position and 'King of Coins' for outcome. Ciro's men often have beards and facial hair, on impossibly smooth faces. In fact the faces are my least favourite element of Ciro's art and more than once I've thought his characters look just a teeny bit cross-eyed. But that's OK. I like diversity in a deck and an impossibly smooth man with a slight visual impairment is fine by me.

There is no LWB with this deck - on publishing the deck, Ciro said it was aimed mainly at collectors, and anyone reading with it would wither know card meanings orbhave access to material to find out. I do find it sticks pretty faithfully to RWS meanings. It's styled on a TdM, but the pips are partially illustrated with RWS related images.

This was one of the more expensive decks I acquired. As mentioned, it comes in a custom satin bag printed with card back on one side, and another design on the other that is replicated on the card box everything comes in. There is also a hand signed card from Ciro.

In terms of a reading deck it's perfectly functional. It's not loaded with symbolism and I had to draw on learned card meanings, but I also enjoyed looking at the geometric patterns in the stained glass as well as the characters depicted. Visually it's gorgeous and I enjoyed simply looking at the colours and textures of the seven cards laid out in front of me.
