Madame Squee Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Thank you for the thread, VG <3 I'm in with Tarot Grand Luxe and Playing Card Oracles.
VGimlet Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 I'll be using the Horror Comic Tarot cards this week. >:D
CharlotteK Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Victorian Romantic for me VG, thank you for the new thread :) Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 I don't know yet, but I enjoyed working with the Game of Thrones tarot this past week. In spite of the 8 of coins...kind of like a great cowboy movie and you spot someone in tennis shoes. Breaks the sense of reality that was invested in the story.
Bookworm Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks VG! It will be the Tarot of the Sidhe again for me.
Madame Squee Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Re: Tarot Grand Luxe This week I am focusing on observing pairs of cards, in order to get really familiar with my deck. In this exercise, I'm looking for visual elements that relate to one another across the borders. That's enough for this exercise, but if I want to carry it a little farther, I look for meaning in the relationships that I see. Here are a couple of examples: The Devil and 9 of Swords. This connection is obvious: the Devil's visage reappears in the nightmare of the 9 of Swords. My feeling is that this pairing results from the artist's intention rather than serendipity and almost seems heavy-handed. Of course -- it makes sense that the Devil would appear in a nightmare. Nevertheless, it works for me, and it is this pair that started me on this quest. The Hermit and 4 of Wands. Honestly, I almost moved on from this pairing. Then, it jumped out: the shape of the lantern and the shape of the tent match. I find this Hermit unusual: he holds his lamp in front of him, but he appears to be looking behind him. I learned many years ago that the Hermit reveals a warning in the card that he is facing. What warning do I see in the 4 of Wands? Spider legs! Those striped tent poles look like spider legs to me. Now, I don't mind spiders in the least, so what is the warning about? Something alien? Something potentially dangerous that has been disguised as something welcoming? I haven't decided yet. For the rest of the week, I will continue to shuffle my deck twice a day and turn over all the cards, two by two, looking for related elements.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 great exercise Squee, I hope you'll post more thoughts here. I always think about doing something different each year on my blog, but am too much a lazy bum to carry the thought through. Spiral for me VG, thank you.
CharlotteK Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Great post Madame Squee. And what a gorgeous deck. Ciro's art is wonderful but this really is an outstanding deck! <goes away to count pennies> I love the comparisons. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Bodhiseed Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Thank you for posting those cards, Squee. :) I'm in this week with the Llewellyn Tarot paired with the Beasts of Albion (an oracle). Thank you, VG!
Madame Squee Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Thank you for the encouragement, everyone! I'm really hoping that I will be able to stay focused on my cards this week! The Tower and 3 of Coins turned up together today. The visual element that connects the two seems overwhelming this morning, but this is the first time I've noticed the similarity. It appears to me that the Tower is being rebuilt in the 3 of Coins, and I love that message. Then, I flipped them around for a different view... Eek!! Pride goes before destruction?
Bookworm Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Wow! I love the idea if the Tower being rebuilt in the 3 of Coins. I don't even want to think about the second message. This is such great way to get to know your deck. :)
Madame Squee Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 great exercise Squee, I hope you'll post more thoughts here. I always think about doing something different each year on my blog, but am too much a lazy bum to carry the thought through. Spiral for me VG, thank you. Thank you, AJ. I'm sure I read about this exercise or one similar, some time, somewhere during the past 17 years. Lol. I know I'm a lazy bum, but I also forget... Really! :P
Madame Squee Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Great post Madame Squee. And what a gorgeous deck. Ciro's art is wonderful but this really is an outstanding deck! <goes away to count pennies> I love the comparisons. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk I like this deck a lot. There is ethnic diversity, which I love. Plus, the women are strong and interesting. (I'm attaching a couple of Queens and will post more women tonight.)
Saturn Celeste Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Madame Squee[/member], I've been enjoying your posts using the Tarot Grand Luxe. What a gorgeous deck! :)
Madame Squee Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Thank you for posting those cards, Squee. :) I'm in this week with the Llewellyn Tarot paired with the Beasts of Albion (an oracle). Thank you, VG! You're welcome, Bodhiseed. I just have to keep myself from wandering away. You're pairing is magnificent! <3 I just had to get out my Llewellyn deck last night and flip through the cards. I absolutely love everything about it...
Magic Waffle Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 This week for me it's been the Universal Fantasy Tarot created by Paolo Martinello <3 a very beautifully made deck with interesting symbolism. Really enjoying my time with it :)
Bookworm Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 My month with the Tarot of the Sidhe is almost up. It was time well spent, especially for the personal readings I did. I used it this week for the Flower Moon reading, and it spoke to me loud and clear. I don't think I would use it again for reading for others, but I did manage to use it for a Circle of Seasons reading. That one didn't come so easily to me, though. Anyway, it's my first faery deck, and I have learned that those beings -- real or imaginary -- have a lot to offer I'm going to try to incorporate learning TdM into my DOTW plans for a while I think -- use two decks, that is. One TdM and another more or less RWS-based deck.
Madame Squee Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Madame Squee[/member], I've been enjoying your posts using the Tarot Grand Luxe. What a gorgeous deck! :) Hey SaturnCeleste, thank you for letting me know. :) I love the looks of the TGL -- it's full of interesting visual elements and gorgeous colors. It's an excellent deck for the exercise I'm doing.
Madame Squee Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Death and the Page of Swords caught my attention this morning. It started with the feather in their hats. Then, the birds -- matching, except that the budgie has swooped down from the Page's shoulder to become the white rose in Death. Very tidy, except two major elements don't match: the mask and the sword. I feel like they must be key to my understanding the message. It seems like it should be easy, but I'm not getting it this morning. I switched the cards around for a different view. In my eyes, they are practically mirror images in both positions. I prefer to see the Page of Swords in front of the Death card... "The Picture of Dorian Gray" popped into my mind. ;D I've been switching cards around the past couple of days to study why I prefer them one way or the other. Honestly, I feel like this one is a frightful combination in either direction. Is it the presence of the Death card or the backstabbing Page of Swords, who looks as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth? :P
