Welcome home!

I've seen many deck creation threads where the artist is loving on 78 images to paint in their own style, but doesn't have a clue about tarot symbology for each card. That irritates the snot out of me.

I learned a lot by coloring in a RWS deck and that might be where they should start. coloring in makes you pause and say why red, why a rabbit.

I agree. While I don't think people who aren't familiar with tarot should be banned from creating a deck and there are many interesting non-traditional decks that don't rely on familiarity with the RWS tradition, you should still have an idea about what you're doing and why. Colouring in a RWS sounds like fun and you're sure to notice a lot of little details you haven't given much thought to before, which gives you an idea about how someone new to your own deck will respond to it.
