PathWalker
I've bought a little Russian (?) 36 card deck - it has Aces, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 3 courts for each suit. The courts are double-headed, the 'pip' cards have line drawings in the background of each card, different for every card. The aces are illustrated I'm thinking I might try and figure out what all the drawings are, and try and make a divination deck of it. Does anyone have any experience with a deck like this? AJ-ish/Sharyn
sounds a bit like the dollar store deck doesn't it? If anyone can make it speak sense it will be you...
Flaxen
36 card decks are common in southern Germany too. The suit symbols are a bit different and they often have two Knaves. There are also 36 cards in a Lenormand deck and it’s probable that meanings evolved from playing card fortune telling. Many Lenormand decks still show the playing card inserts. Might be an avenue to explore? The only playing card decks I use are 52 card decks. I tried using smaller packs but always felt something was ‘missing’. I’m just too ingrained in thinking a deck has 52 cards...spent much of my childhood playing cards with my Belgian grandma and a deck just is 52 cards. Be very interesting to see how you explore a smaller deck though. [emoji4]
EmpyreanKnight
I didn't know that the standard Russian playing card deck only has 36 or 32 cards. TIL.
