Rose Lalonde Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Comparative Tarot Study Group This is a general thread for chat, ideas and questions. I'll post a thread for each card, and anyone can grab a deck you're working with and comment on similarities and differences in how different decks present the same card. What new understanding of that card does your deck give you? Why do you prefer one version of (for example) The Fool over another? Or however you want to compare two or more decks. Post 1 will show the TdM, RWS, and Thoth for a given card, but you don't have to compare your deck's card to all (or any) of those. If there's another deck you'd rather compare it to, that's good too! You can come at it from whatever reading style you prefer, from intuitive sense impressions, to feelings the cards inspire, to analysis of esoteric symbolism in both decks. Whatever works for you. You can post multiple times about different decks in the same thread. You don't have to post for every card. Join in whenever. ETA -- for more card images, check out the fun #22favs threads too.
Rose Lalonde Posted July 16, 2017 Author Posted July 16, 2017 So as you can tell it's pretty relaxed. :) I enjoy the layered sense of meaning I can get by looking at multiple versions of the same card. Maybe it's because I read with the same 2 decks for years, and it wasn't until I branched out to learn about other decks and different reading styles that I started to get a better sense of what the cards meant to me.
maenifold Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Thanks for starting this sub-forum, it looks a fun and rewarding (and mind-expanding) idea. I hope to contribute somewhere down the line, but for the moment will read with great interest.
Lantana Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Ooo, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while! I really need to get back into study instead of just buying and casually using my decks.
Onaorkal Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Oh that's an interesting idea! I like to work with various kinds of decks, it really helps in including depth to some concepts! I will surely join in whenever I have time :)
Bookworm Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Thanks for starting this group. I am interested in participating as well and I know I could learn a lot.
Rose Lalonde Posted July 18, 2017 Author Posted July 18, 2017 If anyone has a preference on how often I should add a new card, just let me know. I could post a lot of the threads, and then you could respond to whichever cards interest you most. Or I can do 1 or 2 a week as we go through the deck in order.
Onaorkal Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I think that too many at once could feel overwhelming, but it also depends if people intend to participate for most of the cards or not. I would personally like to chime in for all cards with at least 1 deck. I've been trying to write something up since yesterday but it's not flowing well! I'm not sure if I should simply try out with another deck for now? I wanted to give it a go with the Manga Tarot, but I think I'll try with the Medieval Cat Tarot and the Marseille Cat Tarot instead!

Rose Lalonde Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Great. I'll post the Magician/Magus in the next day or two, in time for the weekend. :)
Trogon Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 This is an excellent idea Rose! I suspect I will be jumping around through the threads as I work through different decks in the DotW threads. And, since I'm working with my "new" Anna K Tarot, I'll be jumping in with that to start! Though I do have several decks out and have my favorites .... hmmmm. Well, we'll see what I come up with. ;)
Rose Lalonde Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 The High Priestess is up. (I have to catch up! Work got incredibly busy, and I haven't done the Magus yet. I have been reading and updating the top posts with links when new decks are added though.)
Rose Lalonde Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 The Empress is up! (I'm cramming for an unexpected business trip, so still trying to find time to post! But happy to have these up for when I get a moment to breathe. :) )
GreenFaerie Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I love this idea! Not sure how regularly I will be able to post, but I will try to contribute to some of the threads, and I'll be reading with great interest. :)
Rose Lalonde Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 I love this idea! Not sure how regularly I will be able to post, but I will try to contribute to some of the threads, and I'll be reading with great interest. :) Thanks for adding to our decks for the Fool; I've added your posts to the thread index. You're welcome to stop in whenever it suits you. :D
GreenFaerie Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Thank you for doing this, and for being so welcoming! I was happy to be able to contribute today. :)
Rose Lalonde Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 I'm travelling with limited internet access for the next couple of weeks, so I've added the Hierophant, Lovers and Chariot to tide us over. I'll index any new posts when I return!
Rose Lalonde Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 Hi, I've returned from my travels and posted Justice. Now I'm going to catch up on indexing all the posts added while I was away... :)
Rose Lalonde Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 I've been too busy to do more than spend a moment here and there with my favorite tarot app. :'( But I do want to keep this going, and anyway, it's the sort of thing anyone can jump into whenever, so I've just added The Hanged Man for anyone who's interested.
Lantana Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 I’ve been quite busy too, especially since I’m behind on the 78 weeks group as well, but I still have ideas for posts! I have the week off while recovering so I’m going to try to write up some things in-between codeine induced naps. Thank you for continuing to host this, Lalonde!
Rose Lalonde Posted October 22, 2017 Author Posted October 22, 2017 Death added! I’ve been quite busy too, especially since I’m behind on the 78 weeks group as well, but I still have ideas for posts! I have the week off while recovering so I’m going to try to write up some things in-between codeine induced naps. Thank you for continuing to host this, Lalonde! No problem. I enjoy it. Good to know it's still of interest. Feel better soon! (If it were me on codeine, I'd be write loopy ramblings. That stuff knocks me out.) Hope the medicine and added rest is helping, and you're back to good heath quickly!
Bookworm Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I'm another one who's very happy you're continuing to post these, Rose. One day I hope to be able to join in again. I'm also doing the 78 Weeks study group--not enough time for all the Tarot I'd like to do along with everything else.
Rose Lalonde Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 ...I'm also doing the 78 Weeks study group--not enough time for all the Tarot I'd like to do along with everything else. Me too! :) So far I've only posted for the Fool in 78 Weeks, but I do plan to get back to it.
