EmpyreanKnight Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 It looks like 2019 is going to be another exciting year for Tarot. Llewellyn is bound to release the Mermaid Tarot by Leeza Robertson and illustrated by Julie Dillon by March next year. As per usual among Llewellyn's offerings, it's going to be available in a kit with the deck and a 312-page book written by Robertson. The blurb says: The mer-folk are teachers and guides, born in a watery world of magical mythology and powerful energy. This elegantly illustrated deck invites you to receive the lessons and blessings of the mystical realm, offering the insights you need to move forward through the challenges and barriers that we all must face. Now more than ever, the songs of the Mermaid are calling the people of the land. Let their magic be your guide.

Venus Rising Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 The art looks great on this. <3 I've been wanting a really nice mermaid deck. 2019 is going to be a great year! :)
Quester Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Looks awesome!!!!! Such a loooong wait!!!!! Something to look forward to though!!!!
Guest Clotho Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That looks really pretty! Maybe 2019 will be a good time for a new deck.
PageOfCups Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Oh, I need. If the cover of the accompanying book is supposed to be the 3 of Cups, this has got to be the first time I've found a 3 of Cups that really speaks to me. I already own another also very lovely mermaid deck, the Oceanic Tarot. The Major Arcana are lovely (they got creative with some of them) and diversity of the Court cards are wonderful and very welcome, but the Minor Arcana are Marseilles-style (pip cards) which I'm not the biggest fan of... Still love the Oceanic Tarot, though.
Jewel Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 I am a sucker for mermaid anything ... so yeah this one is going on my wishlist for next year.

MysticMoonlight Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Ohhhh, this! <3 I've been searching for a Mermaid deck that really calls to me for ages it seems. There are some that are interesting but they just don't scream "Got to have this" to me for whatever various reasons...this one though, this one just may be the one! Now to begin the anxious wait... :-[ :'( :o
Siavahda Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 I'm sorry, did you say illustrated by Julie Dillon?! I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE IMMEDIATELY
EmpyreanKnight Posted June 22, 2018 Author Posted June 22, 2018 I didn't know that you're a fan too, Siavahda. <3 She's averse to showing preview images of the Mermaid Tarot unless Llewellyn approves it, but for a taste of things to come, just check out the #mermay series on her Insta account. They're simply stunning!

They're simply stunning! Fan?! She's my favourite artist IN THE WORLD. Well, join-fave. But I have both her Kickstarter artbooks and posters of hers all over my walls. She's incredible, and I never even dreamed she'd be involved with a tarot deck! Even if I didn't love mermaids, I would have to get this one. (It'll be my first mermaid tarot.) I can understand being hesitant to show the artwork; you wouldn't want to get in trouble with that kind of thing. But yay, thank you! I will pounce on any available pics :D
EmpyreanKnight Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 Another preview card for the Mermaid Tarot, which shows one of the most poignant 5 of Cups I've ever seen:
Siavahda Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Another preview card for the Mermaid Tarot, which shows one of the most poignant 5 of Cups I've ever seen: I'm so conflicted - on the one hand, this is making me tear up, but on the other hand, I want to shriek with delight because it's so beautiful???
Siavahda Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Can't wait to pre order 8) You already can! I've already pre-ordered mine through Amazon :)
Avalon Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 The Queen of Pentacles and the Five of Cups are both really beautiful. I guess I have something to put on my wish list now.
EmpyreanKnight Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 I'm beginning to think that the seal in the card is actually a selkie. It's a mythical sea creature from Scottish folklore that sheds its seal skin to adapt a human form on land. The background (especially the lighthouse) makes me think of the coasts in the Orkney Islands. I wonder what his/her story is. I hope it isn't tragic. :-\

The background (especially the lighthouse) makes me think of the coasts in the Orkney Islands. I wonder what his/her story is. I hope it isn't tragic. :-\ That makes sense, especially as in many selkie stories the selkie in human form becomes wife to a human husband, who once he finds her seal skin that she needs to return to the water, hides this to bind her to him and to the land forever. But the selkie misses her home. In many stories however, the Selkie will eventually find her skin again and is able to return to the sea :) Thanks for posting this deck, I love mermaids. It is not available through amazon preorder in the UK yet, but I will keep my eyes open.
