This is a sort of follow-up of an old thread on ATF about my attempt to create a faithful, albeit modern reconstruction of the Topkapi deck of Mamluk cards, also known as Muluk Wannubab: www . tarotforum . net / showthread.php?t=205351

I finally managed to complete the design of the cards and are now looking into printing options. More detailed information can be found on the website about this project: mamluk . spiorad . net

I also have a new facebook-page: www . facebook.com / Trzes-art-792312557637618/ with some cards samples and information about the work in progress.

(I had to obfuscate the links I wanted to provide. I guess I would have to subscribe to be allowed to do so? I this is the case, then as soon as I am a subscriber  I'll correct the links.)

Oops, sorry for that.

With https (not http which will probably be added by the browser) and with correctly removing the blanks it worked at least for me.

If that won't do, then two more posts of mine to go, and I will post the links directly.

reall, I am glad you like my deck. It has to be said though that the competition in terms of other mamluk decks isn't all that big. There is Ian Cumptsey's deck of poker-size playing cards which I like a lot, there ist variantventure's deck that very nicely shows the essence of the mamluk pattern (I like the SW version even better). And there is the long OOP facsimile by Aurelia Press that is unafordable if optainable at all. If I am missing one, please tell me (I have been away from the communitiy for quite a while).

I am also hinting of course at earthair and Lynyrd Narciso who quite a while ago talked on ATF about starting their own mamluk card design. ;)

And sure, there will be a booklet. I will include less blurb than on my website though, otherwise it would simply become too big. On the other hand a really big booklet might be a streach goal on my upcoming kickstarter campaign.

Like what I said in the other forums (so many of them nowadays! :D): congratulations to you and kudos to your hard work! Do tell me if you need inputs regarding how to print them - I've a couple of ideas on that. Glad to see you're back in the Tarot world, Trzes. :)

As for my own version, well, that's still a long way into the future. But I now have some ideas on jow to approach... the majors. :D

Thanks DanielJUK for providing the links. An warm thanks everybody for your positive feedback.

@Ly : Yes, these majors ... I have tried to come up with a concept for a full deck too, following our discussion back then on AT. But that would have delayed the publication of my deck even further. I might be back on that some time in the future, maybe with a tarot sized full 78 card version.

Well, say something like 2023 :))

Definitely! Off to start precicely this thread in the Historical Tarot section.

BTW I am now getting the first quotes from printers. All seems to depend on how many cards fit on a print sheet. That apparently makes a print in the original size of the cards (92 x 250 mm) impossible at a reasonable price. With card size 71 x 190 mm, 75% of the orignial size however, I hope to keep the price within an affordable range, which for me means no more or rather less than 50 Euros per deck on kickstarter.

I have received proof prints from two printing companies. Both delivered good results and offered reasonable pricing. That means I can offer the mamluk deck for 38 Euros plus shipping in my upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

I am thinking about a "de luxe" editon of the deck too, on posh art paper, entirely hand made (self printed, self cut, self treated surface by french card maker Agnes Kappler). The art paper has a rough surface, is very thick and incredibly soft and bendy. The look and feel is incredible, the way it resembles ancient cards. Big downside: At the current pricing I'll have to take 250 Euros per deck plus shipping to cover my costs, provided there is no trouble with VAT between France and Germany.

There will be poster prints of single cards available as well.

The start of the campaign is still scheduled for early September. I will notify you as soon as the campaign is on.

Mighty interested about your deck. I saw the preview images that you posted in your FB account, and they only stoked my curiosity. Do post your Kickstarter link here once you launch it, trzes. Looking forward to it.

The Kickstarter Campaign to fund the print run of my reconstruction of the Topkapi deck of Mamluk cards is now online: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/119783014/trzes-mamluk-deck. The campaign is about the "standard" edition of the deck, measuring 71x190 mm, printed on professional cardstock used for playing cards.

The luxurious and mainly hand-crafted "antique-style" edition (limited to 20 decks, 92x250 mm, printed on 3-layered art paper with traditional soap and wax surface treatment) is also open for preorders at:  https://kartograme.shop/products/trzes-mamluk-deck-antique-edition. Printing and delivery will take two months. Decks will be sold via Kartograme exclusively until all the 20 copies are gone (if ever).

The pledge for the standard edition at Kickstarter is 38 Euros plus Shipping (9 Euros worldwide). The preorder price for the antique-style edition is 265 Euros with a plain hardcover box and 295 Euros with a deluxe box. Shipping is free, I think, until the end of the Kickstarter campaign, and will be 12 Euros from then on. The prices will otherwise stay the same.

Remaining decks from the standard edition print run will be sold from January next year, again at the same price as on Kickstarter. That means there is no point waiting  :)

I'm adding you to my ks watch list!:D Thank You  for News & Great deck!:D

There are only 9 days left to place a pledge for a deck.

I hope it succeeds because I want one of these very badly!

There are poster prints available as rewards now too. Hope that pushes the campaign a bit. 29% still need to be funded.
