ToadieOdie Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Originally, this project started out as just a single Tarot card themed writing prompt on one of my blogs. And I feature several images of the card from various artists from Deviant Art in that post. The link to those single card prompts is here: https://chaospen.wordpress.com/tag/tarot/ Well along the way I picked up an interest in 3D modeling and rendering and started tinkering around with that. At some point I decided to start creating my own images of the cards and I started with the Swords Suit since it's the suit I'm the most comfortable with. I do go by the Rider-Waite system and I do consider myself a novice/student in Tarot. This deck is not ever intended for commercial use due to the nature that is Miku Miku Dance and the way this community works in regards to copyright and sharing of intellectual property. So these images are for personal, educational, editorial, and discussion types of use only. I just need to get that out there. Not all of the 3D assets used in these renders are of my making, but are shared for use with the understanding that they'll be used for these purposes. I also thought it would be better to make my own images for my blog since I started to see more and more artists on Deviant Art asking people to not use their images elsewhere. Even though I always gave credit and linked back, there is always that legal concern plus there's the matter of respecting the wishes and feelings of the artist. As I become more skilled with Blender I hope to be able to make more of my own 3D assets and eventually have a library of all that I need to make an entire new deck using only stuff that I have rights too so that if I wished to sell it, I could. But for now, I'm focused on the learning of everything. Here's my Deviant Art gallery for my cards so far: https://www.deviantart.com/toadieodie/gallery/64466884/MMD-Tarot-Cards So each card I've made has been posted in my DA gallery with all the asset credit info and then has a blog entry to go along with it. If you'd like I can give each card here it's own reply with a separate attachment or image insertion if that would be easier. Probably would be easier. I'll just go ahead and do that and add the associated links for those interested.

The lighting and effects worked well and did exactly what I wanted for a change. It just truly created the stealthy feel I was going for here. Just really happy with it.)

ToadieOdie Posted July 6, 2018 Author Posted July 6, 2018 And that's all I have for right now. Some reason it takes me awhile to decide what I want to do with each card and then it takes considerable amount of time to find the assets I need to make it work.
reall Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Hm, this project looks interesting!:) imo even if you use copyright character if you ever decide to publish you can easy change it to *original (i.e just change hair color & clothes? with blender & other 3D modeling programs?:) But if you plan printing (even 1 deck for yourself like I'm sure you will!:) you need to use correct Tarot or Larger card size template (gamecrafter are universal:) https://help.thegamecrafter.com/article/39-templates also as I'm also creating my own Tarot; https://sites.google.com/view/myluckycard/chakra-t so completely got your *thinking elements for each card dilemma! :) imo it's hardest part to think & then depict best composition for each card & doing that for 78 cards takes a LOT of time!X.x most creators don't expect when starting Tarot project & even more if you are searching for "correct elements! ( free pic webs are big help here! :) also it's good idea to write everything down like you do with your blog it'll make great guidebook! :) Iol also it's good to have a role model RWS great start & if you have other fav deck/ artist it can help inspiration:) personally I like your art style & colors! & it's clearly Rws based makes it easy to understand & people luv that!:) my only remarks is proportion; you need to decide will you print it Tarot size or larger & stick with Template to save yourself resizing troubles later when you decide to print! X.x facepalm also maybe you should consider smaller text as it's modern tarot trend textless? :) & maybe make characters bit larger ie it may look odd printed cards with larger text taking attention from smaller characters ? :) those are just some ides! be sure to check out our Tarot creators thread; https://www.thetarotforum.com/deck-creations/what-you-need-to-know-if-you-plan-creating-your-own-tarotoracle-deck/ feel free to ask me anything I'll gladly help! :) & remember key is don't give up before it's completed :)

I never even thought to print these to be honest because I've been working on making them into 3D assets themselves! The thing that's cool about that is I could then do I wide variety of things with them such as render additional images like the ones I've attached here, or create animations. That isn't to say I couldn't print them off for personal use. If I did, I think I would prefer them to be closer to playing card size, which is a bit smaller than the three Tarot decks I own. All three of those have text on them so I wasn't aware that the trend is going textless. I am aware that the ones that do have text on them are all uniformly in one spot and the ones I have don't match that format. I focused more on where I could put the text without disrupting the image quite so much and this might be why more decks are going the textless route. I don't know though. I like the text being there. I'm glad I still have the layers and the original renders so I can rework them at some point if I wish. Some of these cards I'm even thinking about redoing. Like the Ace of Swords I have since edited the angel fairy model so she looks completely different now. Part of me wants to redo the card with the new model. BUT I'm afraid if I keep redoing one card that I'll never finish a deck and I could edit things forever.
reall Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Oh! I got your "Virtual Deck idea now ! :) it's Original keep it! :) & if you decide to print smaller playing card size poker seem fitting proportion!:) you can keep text as some of best & popular tarot like Ellis Tarot & DameDarcy MermaidTarot don't have uniformed text so it's not a deal breaker!:) best to finish design for all cards first so you have at least rough sketch about how you wish each card to look!? :) you can change it or add alternative design later! :) who knows how much your style will change by the time you complete last card!? :)
ToadieOdie Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 Yeah, there's a desktop Tarot program that I use called Orphalese Tarot as well. It's free to use, but if you purchase the lifetime license you can then create and add custom decks to it. So that's always an option there too come to think of it. ^-^ And yeah, I think it's a good idea to wait until I finish the deck before I edit the cards I already have. As it is, I'm on the Knight of Swords and I'm already starting to get ideas for the Cups. :o It's like, "Bad brain, I need to finish the Swords first. PLEASE!" lol I have a friend that made this adorable Koi fish that I'm just itching to use. <3 Debating on using the coffee mug I made or trying my hand at making a tea cup to go with him. I don't know... skinning that mug was a bit of a pain. :-\ So many things to think about and I'm not even finished with the swords! *facedesk* I just need to hurry up and get those done. lol
reall Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 whatever works for you is best! it's a good sign you have inspiration! just go with the flow & create what you feel but try to finish card you started before you start another one & you'll have it completed in no time!^^!:)
ToadieOdie Posted July 8, 2018 Author Posted July 8, 2018 Knight of Swords Blog Entry https://chaospen.wordpress.com/2018/07/08/the-knight-of-swords/ DA Entry https://www.deviantart.com/toadieodie/art/Knight-of-Swords-753451495?ga_submit_new=10%3A1531021373 (looking at some of the other decks here that people are making stirred something up inside me today and I was able to finish this card, spent quite awhile looking at dynamic sword poses to find something "direct" in appearance)
ToadieOdie Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 Queen of Swords DA Entry https://www.deviantart.com/toadieodie/art/Queen-of-Swords-753667403?ga_submit_new=10%3A1531145620 I don't have a blog entry for this one yet. I'm a bit reluctant to post another Tarot based free write entry so soon after my last one and I'm a bit surprised this card came to me so quickly after the knight. I'll need to take some time to gather my thoughts about this card and schedule the post, but I've always seen this queen as one with a clever and sharp wit. She's not afraid to go there, but she isn't without kindness either. Edit: here is the blog entry for this card. https://chaospen.wordpress.com/2018/07/13/the-queen-of-swords/
ToadieOdie Posted July 15, 2018 Author Posted July 15, 2018 King of Swords I haven't posted this one yet. Thought I'd get some feedback on it first. I felt I needed to use the same setting as I did for the queen, but a different pose. The queen has a quick, sharp wit while the king is deeply thoughtful and has purpose in his actions. I wanted the images to reflect that.
