Last Unicorn Tarot Deck ?! Officially Licensed ?!

I remember being utterly obsessed with the film "The Last Unicorn" and terrified of the red bull thing :-\

i was scrolling through old kickstarter tarot projects and came across this (its now available for preorder on backerkit)

I don't really remember much of the film (apart from one song that for the last 14 years has been stuck in my head!), but I'm quite tempted to relive a childhood fave?! although its definitely not the cheapest deck.

Im not sure if the cards shown are mockups, or just showing the concepts...but the card stock looks questionable?

or perhaps the image + no rounded corners just doesn't do it justice?

What does everyone think? I hope someone knows what film I'm talking about haha!

all I see is an x in your post ,,

I had to mess around with attach image to I found one that uploaded the images.

I frankly don't think there is enough in the movie to make a full 78 deck,, so  imo a person should make extended/inspired deck to fill in the blanks..

from the two images shown,, it is hard to see .

if they get the ok for liscese and pull it off,, that be amazing though.

haha thanks for letting me know, its my first post :o

...hopefully I've fixed it?

I've just done some more digging and apparently those pictures were just the first concept cards and that the actual ones  are going to be gilded... now the price makes more sense.

Not only do I remember the movie, but I also remember the novel "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle.  ;D

And yes! I think this would be AMAZING if they manage to get all of the cards done.

It's real but as yet no one seems to have actually got a finished deck. It's weird some of those card pictures look like such cheap paper prints!

Anyway last year they had a Kickstarter for the project. The decks were $65 plus shipping. Here it is to follow the project like you were browsing through. It seems to have taken a long time but apparently people will receive the decks from the kickstarter in July / August this year.

This company called Geekify are making it and also some merchandise including plushes and pins, you can buy the deck now after the kickstarter for $75.99 + shipping from them here

There is also a very interesting article about it all here. The author of the books  Peter S. Beagle was apparently screwed over by his manager who took loads of mechanising money from him and because of this fans would not buy anything from the series. But these items are official and money will go back to Beagle directly bypassing the manager.

Mr Beagle's team said on social media that the new merchandise items were endorsed by him.

Yes some of those cards look really dodgy but it could be they had to print one copy for the kickstarter pics cheaply. They needed to raise money to get it as a real item. No one has actually received this deck, it's taken months! I would personally wait till after August and read the reviews of people. Just check if it ever actually manifested and see the actual finished deck, then you won't be disappointed for sure :) It looks like 5 different people made the cards, one for each suit artwork and the majors, I hope it all turns out okay because you can't see any example of it all. I would hang on till people actually own it and write about it!

Thank you so much for the heads up on all of this. Sucks to know Mr. Beagle got such a raw deal in the past.  >:( I'm glad I've never bought any merch even though I never knew this. I'll be waiting. If the deck is faithful it will be worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

I loved the movie as well and was really excited about the project, particularly the part about Peter being supported directly and that authorised it. That being said, I ended up not supporting the project at the time, mostly because I was kind of broke, but also I wasn't sure about how the deck would turn out.  To be honest, I"m always leery when multiple artists are involved.  I decided that I would hold off until it was released and purchase it then if I still wanted it.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the final results. It was a really successful kickstarter and such a wonderful homage to beautiful childhood memories.  :)

oh! I know about this one! someone posted it on other forum when ks started(but i didn't had ks back then!x,x & was p*off I've missed it as it was supposed to be printed with holo foil(Beautiful Butterfly pattern!x.x effect!x,x facepalm but later there was an update they decided to skip holo foil & go with something *standard so hopefully card stock will be ok (not my concern as fan that would not stop me from ordering!^^ lolz:)

also you can find many art cards previews online!:) & read all about it in ks updates

imo even if it's different artists all cards are illustrated much better than one would expect from such deck & it's Disney style I like!^^ BUT will Wait for Holo or mass(aka more affordable!^^) edt as there should definitively be one!XD :D

Sadly, I don't think they are taking any more pledges. At least on my browser there were no buttons to push. I would love to have this deck, though.

The Last Unicorn meant and means a lot to me, both the movie and the book. But this project, while a dream come true, is just too pricy for me.

By the way, there was so much talk for so long about a possible live action version being made. Alas, they dilly-dallied too much, and we lost Christopher Lee...
