Can you make your own tarot deck?

I would like to learn about tarot cards but i dont have any money to buy a deck. Any money i happen to get right now has to go on bills and food and stuff so i was wondering if there is a way to make your own cards?  Hope this isnt a retarded question lol thanks

yes you can indeed make your own cards - you can make them as elaborate or simple as you like in terms of pictures.

You'd need 78 pieces of card or paper the same size, and draw or write or them! That's it.

 

There are lots of pictures and info online to help you - this one is one I like but other folks will suggest others I'm sure...

hi and welcome to the forum! if you have a smartphone there are actually some free tarot apps that could be an option for you. search around the app store and see what you find - the golden thread is one i've good things about  ^-^

This is a desktop Tarot program if you don't have a mobile device. The free version allows you to pick two decks and the lifetime license allows you download an unlimited number of decks as well as create custom decks for it. You can also create custom spreads and save readings in both versions.

it's easier to make your own oracle deck (without tarot structure). like heart on card means love and emotions but tin opener on card means this, and so on and so on. you just need a symbol and a meaning in your head, you can even paint or draw on stones!

 

The tarot website that came before this wonderful site had a automatic web reading section, it still works after that forum sadly closed. It's here. Pick a reading type that fits and think of the question in your head and then click the link! it will even give you a meaning and is randomised. I have used that often when I want to pull a single card quickly and can't find my phone to use a tarot app. Tip - if you click the artwork picture in your reading, you will get more of an interpretation and info about the card  :)

There are lots of legit images (ultra high-res or otherwise) of the RWS floating around the net. You can just print them out on thick paper and cut them after if you must have a copy that you can physically handle. You're just not limited to the RWS btw - there are other decks like some versions of the Marseille and the Greenwood with images that are either too old to still be in copyright or whose creators have allowed their private use.
