SophiePeony Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Hi! I've been watching this series lately (iZombie) and in one of the episodes I noticed this beautiful tarot deck. It has some very peculiar drawings for the Major Arcana from what I could see and one of the prettiest backprints (roses and thorns in full color) that I've seen. I've been looking for it or something like it, but so far no luck. Now I'm wondering if it really exists. Maybe the production of the series printed a modified version of an already existing deck, or designed one, I'm not sure. I've added some attachments of everything the series shows of it, I apologize for the quality of some of the pictures, that's all I could find. If someone has any idea of the name or one that is similar, I'd be happy to know! Thanks in advance!
gregory Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Many have asked on line (google the episode !) and no-one seems to know, which leads me to think it was made for the programme.
SophiePeony Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 I've been looking for a while now so that may be correct I got so excited about it, what a shame Thank you tho! <3
PageOfCups Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Many have asked on line (google the episode !) and no-one seems to know, which leads me to think it was made for the programme. I would have so much respect for a production if this were the case. Money-grubbing Hollywood can be so lazy and disrespectful when it comes to spiritual beliefs. I've even seen cases where they distance themselves from a belief as they try make money off it as a commodity (by pushing "science is everything and we don't actually believe in this BS" message during the marketing/promotion of a film). I'd be very impressed if a prop master actually took time to learn and design a deck for a show/film, though I doubt they'd care enough unless it was just for intellectual property reasons. But it makes sense since all the photos of the show that the OP posted are all Major Arcana. Typical Hollywood. Sorry for the cynicism. I've seen too much.
EmpyreanKnight Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 This has got me stumped. It looks like an RWS clone, but I don't think I've ever seen it before. I did notice that the font it used is either the same or a very close facsimile of the hand-drawn titles that Pamela Colman Smith applied to her opus, which can be presently seen in the Original Rider Waite, Centennial, and Borderless decks. So gregory might be correct here - they just re-drew the cards they used to avoid any copyright issues while still using the cards' original Smith titles.
