Celtic Shaman's Oracle - alternate card meanings?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ascribed different card meanings to the Celtic Shaman's Oracle deck

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/celtic-shaman/

or the Celtic Oracle deck

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/celtic-oracle-matthews/

The decks have different artists work but are essentially the same.

I have the cards, but am never going to use them in the shamanic journeying way described in the book - yet both sets are quite beautiful. So before I give up (not really an oracle person, but you know . . .) has anyone tried to use their own meanings for these? How did you get on? Might you like to share your meanings, or give suggestions for how you got the deck to speak to you/

Or should I just stick with tarot LOL

Many thanks

PathWalker - still shedding decks, mostly oracles at the moment.

I only have the original version with the Chesca Potter artwork. I do use mine in a shamanic journey way but also pull cards as an Oracle.

The meanings I use are based on the book but added to or simplified for an oracle reading. For example:

The Tree represents our connection to Earth and sky - the divine and our physical world. Depending on how it falls in a reading it could mean that there is a strong connection to the wisdom of the divine/higher self and that this is balanced with being at home in your body. In a not so positive reading, it might be an imbalance - too much ‘away with the faeries’/focus on spiritual matters at expense of the practical or vice versa.

The Ferryman - a passage or journey that is a one-way ticket. Once this path is embarked on, there is no going back and a price will need to be paid. It leads to a profound transformation of self - a death of sorts.

The Woman Made of Flowers - a strong desire to achieve independence, power of transformation. Can represent a situation where someone is trying to control you and you need to assert yourself.

Does this help? Happy to give some more examples if you’d like them or if a particular card puzzles you. [emoji4]

That's exactly the kind of thing I mean - thank you :)

I guess I need to decide if I would use either version as an oracle and then work out these meanings. For now I'm still staring at the cards laid out on a big surface and trying to get past the "ooh aren't they pretty" stage (which is what gets me piles of oracles in the first place :( )

Flaxen, I'm working through a reading (with both decks to compare them) and I'm going to PM you if that's okay?

Thank you

Some more of my meanings - I will do them in batches over the course of the next week. [emoji4]

The Vision Singer - visionary skills, a way with words, a poetic view of life. A need to use words to express something. Needing to voice something. When blocked, unable to articulate your vision or inspire others.

The Walker Between Worlds - a mediator, someone able to be a bridge between two viewpoints. A need to search for knowledge.

The Wildman - having an alternative viewpoint - outside of the mainstream. Intoxicating madness. A situation where you are out of step with society, feeling different. Less positive could be losing sight of what is real, lost in own version of reality.

The Woodward - raw power of nature, able to control animal instincts. Animal lover or environmentalist. Less positive is allowing animal instincts to take over and not engaging rational brain. Not having much patience with people and preferring company of animals.

The Lady of the Ways - a change of direction. New pathways opening up. A choice of road to be taken. Less positive can be regret over the paths not taken - the options left behind and feeling there is no way back.

The Bride of the Waters - creativity, good fortune and spiritual wealth. Abundance. Less positive - the water is stagnant, nothing is flowing as it should. Blockage.

The Firmament - the world of Spirit or our higher self. A solution needs to be based on highest good for all involved.

The Circle of Nine - spiritual dimension of the world we live in. There is a hidden spiritual meaning behind an event.

The Inworld- ancestors. Events have their origin in the family line or distant past. Connecting with ancestral wisdom.

Thank you so much. I might write about a couple I've already looked at, but I do feel I'm making it up as I go at this point  :)

Do share your thoughts. It’s always useful to read what someone else comes up with. [emoji3]

Very nice interpretations, Flaxen! ♥

Many of my personal interpretations are similar, as far as the images are concerned.

I also take into account the lore and legends that go with each of the cards.

Learning about Celtic lore was an important step for me to help me work with my patients and clients of Celtic ancestry. Through trance journeys I met many of the old Celtic Spirit Beings and now I can contact them for advice for my clients and also Students I mentor.

As far as this deck is concerned, the main inner meanings of the cards comes through from the trance exercises / visions and shamanic journeys I undertook and what these archetypes taught me.
