Madame Squee Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Welcome to the study and discussion group for the Everyday Enchantment Tarot by Poppy Palin. I hope everyone who is enjoying this deck (or not) will join us in examining the Everyday Enchantment and share their viewpoint of Poppy's unusual new tarot. This thread is for general discussion of the deck, comments and questions. My hope is that new topics will grow out of it. In the meantime, I am working on setting up a separate thread for each card, as well as an index of threads to avoid duplication. If the card you're interested in discussing isn't here yet, please feel free to start a new topic on it. Here we go! ***** Poppy Palin's website: http://www.poppypalin.org/tarot.htm
Thoughtful Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Would love to hear other peoples comments on this deck. Have you been using it if so what do you feel about it. Does it work for you, or do you find that the images are too in your face. What has been your general feeling using this deck. What do you like or dislike about it. l use Roots of Asia, Thoth and the like, but love this deck and find its a refreshing and modern take. It would be a wonderful deck for a newbie who may be struggling with the tarot. Poppy is such a talented writer, artist and psychic, and this second deck of hers l feel brings tarot readings alive. Have you always had trouble with other decks when confronted by the King of Swords for instance. There he sits on a throne holding a sword, well ok what does it mean. You have to go scrambling for the lwb or book to find the meaning, memorise it, and hope you remember it well enough. In the Everyday Enchanted the King of Blades (swords) is shown with the meaning loud and clear. A professional man, with concise thinking, able and trained to get to the point without emotions getting in the way, and so on. l think that is very clever how Poppy does this with all her cards. The meaning stares you in the face, and there are enough nuances in the cards that can fire your intuition. l enjoyed reading her book well written with meanings, keywords, comparison to RWS images, and the subjects talking in the first person to you. Today l asked for a card from the deck and pulled 9 Blades, a woman hands over eyes, clock ticking by her side, and her little dog in front of her staring at her. Had to chuckle, l have an elderly dog who needs to go out for wee's during the night, so my sleep is disturbed often and l look at my clock thinking," oh now what time is she getting me up". l thought that was priceless. Do let us, Madame Squee and myself, hear your views on the deck.
Thoughtful Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Looks like we have people looking, so why not get involved and let us know your thoughts on the cards. Any card you wish to choose, or you can add your impressions to those already discussed.
Madame Squee Posted August 16, 2018 Author Posted August 16, 2018 Today l asked for a card from the deck and pulled 9 Blades, a woman hands over eyes, clock ticking by her side, and her little dog in front of her staring at her. Had to chuckle, l have an elderly dog who needs to go out for wee's during the night, so my sleep is disturbed often and l look at my clock thinking," oh now what time is she getting me up". l thought that was priceless. Hey Thoughtful! I also have an elderly dog, and you made me laugh so loud! :)) That's what I love the most about this deck: the image in the card may be an actual depiction of what's going on. I drew the Five of Wands* for my mother's birthday party. Immediately, I thought of sibling rivalry and competition among the several sisters and nieces who would be there. And there was some of that, of course. But before the party ended, two large dogs were playing tug-of-war in the living room as I held my second piece of cake over my head. At that point, I realized that my mother's house has always been full of Five of Wands energy and always will be. Everyone talks loud and brings their own dog. If you can't take the heat... ;D *Scroll down for images of the Nine of Blades and 5 of Wands: http://www.poppypalin.org/tarot.htm
Thoughtful Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Well l hope you don't have to draw the 9 Blades too soon :)) :)) :)) What a great card to pick 5 Wands and how well you interpreted it to mean your mothers birthday. People getting all excited and dogs flying about. So apt. These cards are quite something, l do like that they pick up our lives, and it seems that they have a great sense of humour. Its like they are looking over our shoulder. But it does give one faith in their accuracy in reading for others.
Madame Squee Posted August 19, 2018 Author Posted August 19, 2018 These cards are quite something, l do like that they pick up our lives, and it seems that they have a great sense of humour. Its like they are looking over our shoulder. But it does give one faith in their accuracy in reading for others. Thoughtful, this is such a great observation! I do have more confidence in my ability to interpret readings with this deck. I have always been a great believer in "less is more" and read frequently with Marseille-type decks, but the Everyday Enchantment seems to be the tarot that proves the rule. Hey, guess who got new scissors?! (Paper cutters hate me.)
Thoughtful Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 My goodness you read with the Marseille? l do try but am afraid l tend to use RWS meanings, which is not the purpose of them :D l do have the Vincenti Modrone coming in February its such a sumptuous deck. All gold and silver. The cards are huge but l won't be trimming those. This will be my collector deck. Well the Everyday Enchantment is certainly not the less is more variety as you say :)) It overwhelmed me at first with their in your face images, but l have really grown to love this deck. l am using this more than l use my Roots of Asia and that is really saying something. Oh do be careful with those scissors Squee, if you can cut a straight line all power to you. But l can't to save my life. Edit to say are you leaving the keywords on? l did. Love that you show the 2 Blades..... Decision, decision, decision :))
Madame Squee Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 My goodness you read with the Marseille? l do try but am afraid l tend to use RWS meanings, which is not the purpose of them :D I think it's perfectly all right to use RWS meanings with Marseille-type minors. That's how I started. Now, I use the meaning of suit and number (e.g., the 5 of Coins symbolizes a change in money). Plus, I assess the arrangement and appearance of the pip symbols; they add depth to meaning and interpretation. When I read TdM, I look at a line of 3 to 5 cards to observe how they interact with one another. For instance, if the 5 of Coins turned up to the right of the Queen of Coins, who faces left, and the Ace of Cups turned up on the side she is facing, I might see that the Queen is not aware or ignoring a change in money that is about to take place -- because she is focused on love. And, in that moment, the arrangement of the 5 of Coins might remind me of the Wheel of Fortune. (This is the resource book I use: "Tarot, The Open Reading" by Yoav Ben-Dov. His deck is the CBD Tarot de Marseille, which is currently published by USGames.) l do have the Vincenti Modrone coming in February its such a sumptuous deck. All gold and silver. The cards are huge but l won't be trimming those. This will be my collector deck. I just looked it up... What a gorgeous deck! You are going to love it just the way it is! Well the Everyday Enchantment is certainly not the less is more variety as you say :)) It overwhelmed me at first with their in your face images, but l have really grown to love this deck. l am using this more than l use my Roots of Asia and that is really saying something. "In your face images" -- that's a great description of EET. I don't usually enjoy busy cards and that scared me away from it for a long time. Now, I've been reading with EET for almost 3 weeks, and I haven't shelved it yet. That's probably a record for me. Oh do be careful with those scissors Squee, if you can cut a straight line all power to you. But l can't to save my life. Thank you, Thoughtful. <3 I will be careful. Since these scissors are new, I will practice on some loose cards before I start. Slow and steady. Edit to say are you leaving the keywords on? l did. Love that you show the 2 Blades..... Decision, decision, decision :)) I finally decided to leave the titles on. I can always take them off later -- can't put them back on.;D
Thoughtful Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Yesterday l managed to find some extra money in my bank a/c, so l bought several little things l had been wanting for a while. l had so wished to be able to afford my usual perfume and found l could :) In the evening l pulled a card having asked what would you like to tell me. l drew the 9 Cups! well you know the meaning of that. These cards are eerie!!!! Like you l do have the Yoav Ben-Dov book but still could not get the hang of using Marseille in the way you describe. Perhaps when l get the Visconti Modrone it will inspire me to practise.
Thoughtful Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 You have been a busy bee Squee! posting all those cards. l have written up on two of them. Will do some more when you have had a chance to put your thoughts on 8 Cups and the Moon as well <3
Madame Squee Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Hey Thoughtful! Thank you for being such a great study partner. <3 I love the 8 of Cups and the Moon! But I am anxious to comment on the Five of Coins first. Unfortunately, I have become bogged down this week with clearing out a couple of closets for a yard sale on Saturday. My daughter-in-law is hosting this event, and I can't miss this chance to declutter and perhaps make some money towards re-doing the kitchen cabinets. All stuff left over after the sale goes immediately to the thrift store. Thank heavens, "stuff" no longer comes into this house -- aside from tarot cards, that is. ;D PS: You've got me thinking about my favorite perfume. I gave it up when I retired a few years ago. Hmm... ;)
Thoughtful Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Gosh Squee de-cluttering is something l really must get round to. l keep putting it off. Will look forward to when you are less busy and you bring your thoughts on the 5 Coins. In the meantime l will hold back on commenting on the other cards, or maybe l will do one or two! Why not treat yourself to your favourite perfume l find it a great pick me up. Now l wonder if it is the same as mine that would be really spooky :)) Today l had two private readings and was wondering, should I use my old faithful The Roots of Asia, or shall l put the Everyday to the test. In the end l put both decks on the table for their choice, and they both chose the Everyday. l thought oh well here goes lets put it through its paces. It read beautifully and accurately, they were pleased with their readings and l was over the moon that l have gained such a rapport with this deck. My intuition was on fire, more so than with The Roots of Asia. And l thank you also for being a wonderful study partner <3 <3

Madame Squee Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 Hey, how did the trimming turn out? Any piccies? ^-^ Thank you for asking! Unfortunately, I haven't done it yet... Procrastination is my middle name, and some of the other things upon which I've been procrastinating caught up with me this past week and drastically curtailed my tarot time. :P I definitely will post piccies! ;D
Saturn Celeste Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Hey, how did the trimming turn out? Any piccies? ^-^ Procrastination is my middle name I definitely will post piccies! ;D Mine too fellow Aquarian! I will keep an eye on this thread. ^-^
Lionsdaughter Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Hi! I was quite excited to get this deck after it first came out, but the size and borders put me off. I find bigger cards difficult to hold and shuffle and often prefer smaller sized decks, or even thinner and longer. I am considering getting out the trimmer and cutting off the side borders. It might help me to pull the deck out and get reacquainted with it. Looking forward to seeing trimmed cards before I dive in.
Thoughtful Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 l wish l could put a pic of my trimmed cards here, but we will have to wait for Madame Squee. l was glad I did it, l trimmed the top and sides, and took a little of the bottom leaving the keywords. They are much more manageable now and in fact enhance the images even more. l will have to ask my other half to help me put a pic here :)) Edit: He has agreed, watch this space :) :)
Thoughtful Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Here we go, as you can see the tip of the butterfly has gone, but l do not do reversals so it did not matter. If you take the keywords out you can trim them to match. My other half took photo on wooden table so it looks like they have a border :))
Saturn Celeste Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Oh those look really good!! I'm still a scardey cat to try to trim mine. I don't mind shuffling them anyway but it really does bring out the image more after they've been trimmed!
Lionsdaughter Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Wow, what an improvement! I really like what you've done Thoughtful. Thanks for posting the pics. :)
Thoughtful Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 l'm finding this deck so good for readings. l have always used my Roots of Asia tarot when reading for others, but decided l would give clients a choice of the Everyday Enchantment or Roots Of Asia. Every single person opted straight away for the Everyday! l find the deck very insightful and accurate. l love the way there are so many little clues in the cards, such as in the 9of cups which came up today for a client. l was suddenly drawn to the sailing ship in the card, my intuition kicked in and l found myself saying she was thinking of going on a cruise. Her expression was priceless, it was true. There are so many of these little clues and pointers in the cards that your intuition can grab hold of. Not at all disappointed with this purchase. Would love to hear how others are getting on with this deck.
Rupicapra Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I'd like to join please. I got the deck just before Christmas but I haven't even had time to shuffle the cards yet. I love the cards, but there is a lot going on in the imagery, and I think because of that this deck is gonna be a bit of a challenge for me. My brain does not cope with busy images so well, it prefers a bit less crowded cards with more empty space, less busy (I'm in general not a very visual person and then in cases like this my attention span gets really short and I tend to give up), then it can focus onto the things that stand out. I can do it tho, and I really want to do it, I just need to focus. So I'm joining the study group to help me focus and examine the cards, it'll be easier because I'm not alone :)
Thoughtful Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Big welcome X/ Rupicapra to the discussion. Lovely to have someone else join in. Yes there is a lot going on in the cards which l personally find really helpful. In your case perhaps you just need to relax and not try to look at everything at once. Have you tried just looking at the middle of the card and only when you feel drawn to, look at the surrounding details if need be. Hope this makes some sense to you :)
Rupicapra Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Thoughtful[/member] thank you, I'll try and start focussing in the centre first, that is a good idea. It'll will be a brain exercise for me too ;D
