Pen Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Hi Reall. I think the question regarding the idea of relics as suits can probably be answered by the fact that I'm the first to reply to this thread. It might work if the suit signs weren't defined as relics, although I guess that the crosses might give the game away. :) But then the theme would lack meaning and be somewhat pointless. It's funny though, as there are many tarot and oracle cards featuring saints and religious paintings, and historical tarot drew heavily on biblical symbolism, yet even the non-religious non-tarot people I know tend to regard tarot and tarot cards as something to be avoided at all costs. It's a really difficult question to answer, and as for rating how realistic the idea is... :bugeyed: :) :) :)
reall Posted November 16, 2018 Author Posted November 16, 2018 Hi! Thank You for answering!:) agree it's a stretch but fact is Tarot have some religious elements & icons & like idea that suits could be inspired by those as well & maybe tell a story about how they were lost?xD or even of 4 evangelist or kingdoms or something?;) hope historic find interest to explore it further one day!:)
Pen Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 I like the idea of telling a story of how the relics were lost - that would tie it all together. There's some history of those relics or of fakes and/or pieces of them - I seem to remember that someone worked out that all the pieces of the "true cross" in various churches around the world would exceed by far the probable dimensions of an actual cross. There's a spearhead somewhere too I believe, but that has been proved to be a fake and someone uncovered a cup at Glastonbury, which has some historical connections, as the tombs of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere were allegedly uncovered by the monks way back, (probably as a way to attract tourists and revenue) and St. Peter supposedly stuck his staff in the ground and the Glastonbury holy thorn tree rooted and grew from it. Sadly some moron vandalized this poor tree a few years back, but being a hawthorn it will almost certainly grow back. So I'll rate it an 8, as long as your enthusiasm holds out... :)
BlackTarotCards Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 We don't have a well detailed story of how modern tarot evolved, but one of the most fascinating things to me about tarot is how different people interpret the cards. Though the suits likely didn't derive from messianic relics, if you relate them self-consistently in your practice then that becomes one more way for a deck to give you information.

That's why it works so well?:)
