joy Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 And if you do, how do you use it? a. Hidden Secret b. It is not about this... c. ? I guess I would have to decide which method I use before I do a reading?
Page of Ghosts Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 What is the shadow card? Do you mean the card at the bottom of the deck? Sometimes I have a peek at it, if you mean the bottom card. Just did a reading and I had a look at it to discern some extra info about the reading, because parts of it was a little confusing. I read it as the base card, kind of like how you would calculate the quint to get a solid foundation of what to skew your reading towards.

Hey Page of Ghosts Yes the card on the bottom is what I meant. So you use it as 'additional' information rather than 'it is not about that'?
Raggydoll Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 I don’t always look at the base card but when I do, I see it as ‘the shadow’ or a subconscious part of the reading. It would provide further information but also add extra layers to the reading. But most of the time I find that my readings are complex enough without needing to add any extras, that’s why I don’t use it on a regular basis
HOLMES Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 in the book forest of souls.. she describes the cards at the bottom as wisdom teachers about the reading.. they are not shadow cards in her method.. at least 15 to 16 years ago in the forest of souls.

This time I did, other times I've used it as what it's not about :) I decided before I looked at it.

Page of Ghosts Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 By the way, I did a thread a while back on this mysterious bottom card. Maybe you will find some other ideas here if you haven't seen it already: https://www.thetarotforum.com/using-tarot/the-bottom-card-of-the-deck/

Had not seen this before, as I was searching for 'shadow' card and not 'bottom' card ;-)
Guest Night Shade Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I do read the bottom-of-the-deck card. I read it as something that's influencing the situation; what's at the bottom of the matter. I learned this technique from the book Tarot Tips by Ruth Ann and Wald Amberstone. It's out of print now, but if you can find a copy, I highly recommend it; it's a great resource.

Petalene Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 I read it as “what’s underneith” like NightShade. I don’t do it often, but when I do, it’s been spot on and helpful. Anytime I pull additional cards though, I ask a specific question before I pull it. When I don’t, I get gobbledygook and have no idea what what I’m looking at. You could have different questions each time based on what the spread is about, so try specifying the question before you pull it. See if that helps. Good luck.
